Panthers Fall to Spartans in Final Game of Regular Season

MELBOURNE, FLA. – Florida Tech Panthers volleyball takes the loss in their final regular season game at Tampa.

STATS OF THE MATCH:

First Set:
  • Antia Vallecas Rodriguez would get the game started for the Panthers as she would register a kill assisted from Chiara Patelli, 1-0.
  • The Panthers would deliver the first run of the game (3-0) after being tied 2-2 via three straight kills from Cordelia Kearns, Lilian Muszynski, and Tessa Mati, 5-2.
  • The Spartans would answer back with a (3-7) run to tighten things up and tie the set at 7-7.
  • Tampa would again deliver a run of (3-12) to take the momentum of the set now up, 11-19.
  • Tech would fight to get back in the set with a (4-0) run with help from Lilian Muszynski & Tessa Mati, 15-19.
  • The Panthers would give the Spartans a contest as they would climb back to within three, 20-23.
  • Unfortunately, it would be Tampa that would score the final two points to take the set, 20-25.
 
Second Set:
  • An error by the Spartans would get the scoring started for the Panthers followed by a Chiara Patelli kill, 2-1.
  • The set would stay close as the teams would exchange points, the Panthers were led during the stretch by Chiara Patelli, Cordelia Kearns with support from Irene Kitson with a kill and a service ace from Courtney Capar and Jeanne Hassoun.
  • Tech would lead by two 8-6, 10-8, and their biggest lead to this point 14-10.
  • As expected, the Spartans wouldn't be done yet and they would claw to get back in this one.
  • After a Panther (3-0) run the Spartans would deliver a (2-6) run to bring Tech's lead to just one, 20-19.
  • The Panthers would take hold of the set at this point and deliver four kills and a service ace to take the set and tie the game at 1-1.
 
Third Set:
  • The Panthers couldn't get anything going in this set as they would start 1-0 via an error but be outscored (1-6) and face a hole early, 2-6.
  • Tampa would match every point the Panthers would score holding onto their lead, 6-11.
  • Tech would get something going and deliver a (5-1) run thanks to Antia Vallecas Rodriguez, Chiara Patelli, Cordelia Kearns, and two errors from the Spartans, 11-12.
  • The Spartans in turn would respond with a (3-9) run to extend their lead to seven, 14-21.
  • Antia Vallecas Rodriguez would score two more kills for the Panthers but that is all they would score as they would take the set lose, 16-25 now down 1-2.
 
Fourth Set:
  • The Panthers fighting from behind in the match would stay close with Tampa, causing multiple ties and an early lead with help from Chiara Patelli, Lilian Muszynski, Jeanne Hassoun, Cordelia Kearns, and Antia Vallecas Rodriguez
  • At the point of 7-6, the Spartans would go on the first run of the game that would prove to be detrimental, (1-7) and the score now being 8-13.
  • The Panthers would go on a (6-3) run to trail by just one forcing a Tampa timeout.
  • The Spartans would then outscore the Panthers (2-9) to take the set and match victory, bringing the regular season to an end for the Panthers.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • All-time vs. Tampa: 1-94
  • Lilian Muszynski's 106 block assists give her sole possession of second most in a season in program history.
 
UP NEXT:
The Panthers will now await the selection show Monday, November 25th at 7:30pm to see who they will play in the National Tournament.
