STATS OF THE MATCH
  • Despite an early shot from Omar Florindo, Tampa gained possession, drove the ball to the Panthers' box, and drew a foul for a penalty kick in just the third minute of the game. Tampa's Pablo Marques knocked the ball into the net, giving the Spartans the 1-0 advantage.
  • From there, Tech controlled the half, taking seven corners compared to Tampa's 1 and 10 shots compared to Tampa's four. Unfortunately, the Panthers were unable to even the game before the half. Gene Lewis led the team with three first-half shots.

  • Jonas Schmitt found Jacopo Ghezzi, who smashed the ball into the top right of the goal for the equalizer in the 56th minute.
  • About three minutes later, Lewis stole a ball from a Tampa defender and ripped it into the bottom center of the net, putting the Crimson and Gray up 2-1.
  • A desperate Tampa team pushed toward the goal. After Iker Bastida made a stellar save towards the left of the net, the deflection found a Tampa player, who would score to tie the match at two apiece.
  • The energy rose between both teams, looking for the winning goal with 20 minutes left. Tommy Chamberlain broke the deadlock, shimmying past several defenders and banking the ball off the back post into the net.
