Burke Walks Off Game Two to Sweep Doubleheader; Tech Wins Series Over Spring Hill

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Noah Burke walked it off for the Panthers in game two as the Florida Tech baseball team won both games this afternoon over Spring Hill to take the weekend series.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

STATS OF GAME 1:
  • Marshall Burke walked to start the bottom half of the first inning. Jack Matousek singled through the right side of the infield to advance M. Burke to third, and two batters later Noah Burke brought him home with a sac fly to take an early 1-0 lead.
  • Neither offense could get going for the next few innings. In the bottom of the fourth, another single from Matousek plated Cole Patrick to extend the Panthers lead to 2-0.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, a sac fly from Camden Colman scored N. Burke to make it 3-0 in favor of the Panthers.
  • Spring Hill got on the board in the top of the seventh after an error allowed a Badger to score and make it 3-1.
  • N. Burke would get that run back in the bottom half of the inning with a solo home run to right field to lead off the inning.
  • A single in the top of the eighth brought home two more runs for Spring Hill to make it 4-3 heading into the final frame.
  • Ethan Stephens earned his first save of the season after an easy one-two-three top of the ninth to secure the win for Tech.
 
STATS OF GAME 2:
  • N. Burke continued to stay hot in the second game of the afternoon. His single in the first inning brought home M. Burke to give the Panthers another early 1-0 lead.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, Tech was threatening with the bases loaded and no outs. But starting pitcher Harun Pelja was able to work out of the jam for Spring Hill and keep the game at 1-0.
  • In the top of the sixth, a double down the left field line brought in two runs, and the Badgers took a 2-1 lead heading into the final frame of the afternoon.
  • After a scoreless top half of the inning, Patrick worked a walk to lead off the bottom half of the seventh. Roman Samson followed with a double down the line, and after an intentional walk to Josh Ford, Carlos Guzman saw four pitches and plated the game-tying run with a bases-loaded walk.
  • N. Burke would cap off his fantastic day at the plate with a bomb to the left center fence, which brought in the game-winning run and gave Tech the series win over Spring Hill.
 
NOTABLE PANTHERS:
  • On the day, Noah Burke went 3-for-7 at the plate with a home run, four RBI's, two runs scored, and a stolen base.
  • In game one, Jack Matousek went 3-for-5 with one RBI.
  • Danny Vassallo earned the win in game one after he tossed five innings of scoreless baseball with three strikeouts.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Ethan Stephens earned his first save with the Panthers in game one.
  • Florida Tech moves to 10-5 all-time against Spring Hill, including 6-3 in Melbourne.
 
UP NEXT: Florida Tech will host Embry-Riddle for a midweek out-of-conference contest on Tuesday, Feb. 6. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field in Melbourne, Fla.
