Baseball Swept by Bucs in Doubleheader

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Tech baseball team dropped both games of its Saturday doubleheader to Barry, 8-4 in game one and 6-1 in game two, allowing the Bucs to earn the series sweep.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Game 1 Final: Florida Tech 4, Barry 8
Game 2 Final: Florida Tech 1, Barry 6
Records: Florida Tech (16-26, 8-16 SSC), Barry (23-18, 11-10 SSC)
Location: Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field | Melbourne, Fla.

STATS OF GAME 1:
  • Barry jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with two unearned runs in the top of the first inning.
  • Tech bounced back in the bottom half of the run with an RBI groundout from Carlos Guzman to make it a 2-1 game.
  • In the bottom of the second inning, Joseph Phan sent a deep fly ball to left field that allowed Marshall Burke to tag up and cross the plate to tie the game at 2-2.
  • The Bucs answered with a sacrifice fly of their own in the top of the third to retake the lead, 3-2.
  • Guzman earned his second RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly to tie the game once again, 3-3.
  • An RBI single from Lee Anthony Santiago in the top of the fifth gave the lead back to Barry, 4-3.
  • The Bucs would add four more runs in the top of the sixth inning to extend the lead to 8-3.
  • Both offenses would be kept in check until the bottom of the ninth inning when Tech tried to rally. Gabe Garrett led off the inning with a walk followed by a Jason Blackstone single that moved Garrett up to third.
  • Jack Matousek would hit into a double play, but that allowed Garrett to score and make it an 8-4 game.
  • Brett Kelly followed up with a double, but the Bucs would get Guzman to ground out and the game ended with a final score of 8-4.

STATS OF GAME 2:
  • After a scoreless first inning, Barry took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second with an RBI base knock from Felix Diaz.
  • The Panthers looked to get that run back in the bottom of the frame with the bases loaded and one out. Garrett sent a hard ground ball up the middle, but it was snagged by the pitcher who started a 1-2-3 double play to escape the jam and end the inning.
  • Trenten Anderson would sit down the Bucs in order over the next three innings.
  • In the top of the sixth, Barry would add four runs on three hits and two Panther errors to take a 5-0 lead.
  • Both teams would remain scoreless until the ninth inning. During that span, Ridge Skarbek took the mound and tossed two perfect innings, striking out four of his six batters faced.
  • In the top of the ninth, the Bucs added one more run on a wild pitch to push the lead to 6-0.
  • A walk and back-to-back singles to start the bottom of the ninth plated M. Burke to erase the shutout and make it a 6-1 game for Tech. But that was all the Panthers could muster and the game ended with a final score of 6-1.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Florida Tech moves to 72-69 all-time against Barry, including 41-31 at home against the Bucs.
  • Jason Blackstone has now reached base safely in 35 straight games played.
