Volleyball Falls On The Road To PBA

West Palm Beach, Florida – Florida Tech Volleyball was back on the court this afternoon as they traveled to Palm Beach Atlantic. This was the fourth match in a row for Tech in South Florida and the fourth total on the team's five-game road set in October.

MATCH NOTES:
First Set: Florida Tech 22, Palm Beach Atlantic 25
  • Isabelle Clark earned the first kill of the match and after back-to-back kills from Cordelia Kearns, Tech led 3-1 early.
  • The Panthers continued the kill parade, with Ayisha Missipo and Clark both earning kills after the Sailfish tied the set.
  • Despite the strong start hitting for Tech, PBA was able to use a 5-0 run to take their first lead of the set.
  • Elisa Broggio earned her first kill of the afternoon to put an end to the Sailfish run but the Panthers still trailed 10-6.
  • Tech earned points from Kearns kills and PBA errors but still trailed 15-11more than halfway through the first set.
  • Tech began to cut into the Sailfish lead with a service ace from Kearns and kills from Missipo, but still found themselves down 20-17.
  • Hadley Waldren earned back-to-back kills and to cut the Sailfish lead down to two points, but the Panthers were never able to tie or take the lead.
Second Set: Florida Tech 24, Palm Beach Atlantic 26
  • The second set started with a bang for the Panthers as Elisa Broggioa and Kenzie Delacher registered kills on the way to a 4-1 lead to open.
  • While the Sailfish kept it close, Tech did not give up the lead through the first 20 points as kills from Cordelia Kearns and Hadley Waldren gave the Panthers a 11-9 lead.
  • Kills from Kearns, Broggio, Isabelle Clark and Ayisha Missipo helped Tech win multiple long rallies and hold onto a multi-point lead (19-15).
  • Following a timeout, PBA went on a 3-0 run to cut the Panther's lead to one but Kearns answered right back with her 15th kill of the game and a service ace.
  • The Sailfish continued their comeback effort, and while Tech never gave up the lead, PBA forced extra points at 24-24.
  • The Panthers were unable to hold on as PBA took the lead and won the second set.
Third Set: Florida Tech 21, Palm Beach Atlantic 25
  • Looking to bounce back after dropping the second set, the Panthers opened the third set with a 3-0 run.
  • PBA answered back, but kills from Hadley Waldren and Scarlett Kimbrell kept Tech out in front 7-4.
  • Another Sailfish unanswered run got them back in the set early and after Tech led 8-7, both teams went back and forth for the next 15 points.
  • The third set was deadlocked at 10-10, 12-12, 14-14 with both teams battling for momentum.
  • Unfortunately for the Panthers, it was the Sailfish that found it first as they used a 5-1 to propel them out front.
  • Kills from Elisa Broggio and Cordelia Kearns helped Tech stay within striking distance but PBA was able to find enough points to put the match away.
NOTABLE PANTHERS: BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Cordelia Kearns finishes the weekend with 49 kills in seven sets.
  • Despite the sweep, the Panthers lost all three sets by only 9 total points.
UP NEXT: Tech will head back out on the road on Tuesday, October 21st, to take on Rollins at 7 PM in Winter Park. This will be the final match for the Panthers on their five-game road trip before returning home next weekend.
