MATCH NOTES:
First Set: Florida Tech 14, Nova Southeastern 25
  • This afternoon's match started quickly for the Panthers as they took a 6-2 lead with kills from Isabelle Clark, Cordelia Kearns and Devyn Glassgold.
  • The early run continued for Tech with Maiella Riva and Clark grew the lead to 10-4.
  • Nova battled back but after back-t-back kills form Kearns, the Panthers led 16-9.
  • Both teams traded points until three straight Shark attack errors had the Panthers in a position to close out the set.
  • More kills from Kearns and more errors from Nova allowed the Panthers to capture the first set and take a 1-0 lead.
Second Set: Florida Tech 16, Nova Southeastern 25
  • The second set continued the trend of back and forth between these two sides as the scoreline was knotted at 4-4 early.
  • Unfortunately for the Panthers, they were on the wrong side of a 7-1 run as Nova took 14-7 lead at the midway point of the set.
  • Kills from Cordelia Kearns and Isabelle Clark had Florida Tech in a position to begin a comeback, but another run from the Sharks had Nova in full control of the set.
  • Tech earned kills from Scarlett Kimbrel and Devyn Glassgold, but one final big unanswered run from Nova gave the Sharks the win in the second set.
Third Set: Florida Tech 22, Nova Southeastern 25
  • Much like the second set, the third set began with both teams trading points as the score was tied at 2-2, 5-5 and 7-7.
  • Despite good defense from the Panther backline, a 3-0 Shark run with two blocks gave them a small advantage in the middle of the set.
  • Tech responded with kills form Cordelia Kearns and block form Elisa Broggio and Isabelle Clark but still found themselves trailing 13-12.
  • It was then that Nova went on a dagger of a run, scoring five unanswered points in a 7-1 run to grow the lead to the largest of the set, 19-13.
  • The Panthers responded again with kills from Clark and Kearns plus a Courtney Capar service ace to cut the lead to three at 22-19.
  • The comeback effort was snapped by Shark kills as they won the third set and took a 2-1 lead in the match.
Fourth Set: Florida Tech 14, Nova Southeastern 25
  • Despite the late momentum Tech garnered from the comeback effort in the third set, Nova began the fourth set by opening a 6-4 lead.
  • The Panthers stayed in striking distance early, as kills from Cordelia Kearns, Scarlett Kimbrell and Ayisha Missipo kept the deficit at two points, 10-8.
  • This however, was the last time the Panthers were within two points because the Sharks used a 9-3 run to lead 18-11.
  • Tech got points from Ashley Rants, Isabelle Clark and Kearns but Nova went on to win the set and take the match.
NOTABLE PANTHERS:
  • Cordelia Kearns – 23 Kills, 12 Digs, 1 Service Ace, 1 Block
