Tech Takes Down No. 13 Lynn With 3-0 Sweep

Melbourne, Florida – Florida Tech Volleyball was back on the court this evening for the second match of the team's five-match home slate. The Panthers played host to the reigning national champions, No. 13 Lynn and looking to make a statement.

MATCH NOTES:
First Set: Florida Tech 25, Lynn 19
  • To begin tonight's action, both teams traded opening points until the Panthers used a small run to take their first lead of the set at 4-3.
  • A big block from Cordelia Kearns and Hadley Waldren gave Tech their first multi-point lead, and a Scarlett Kimbrell kill grew the lead to 7-4.
  • After some back and forth, a block and kill from Cordelia Kearns kept the Panthers out in front 13-11.
  • More blocks from the Panthers, along with kills from Cordelia Kearns and Devyn Glassgold held the Tech lead at 20-18.
  • Two aces from Courtney Capar, a huge block from Elisa Broggio and Isabelle Clark sent Tech on a 3-0 run as they closed out the first set to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Second Set: Florida Tech 25, Lynn 21
  • Building off the momentum from the first set, the Panthers opened up the second set with a 5-1 lead with kills from Cordelia Kearns, Isabelle Clark and Elisa Broggio, plus two aces from Kelly Merz.
  • The Panthers continued to roll early in the set as they grew the lead to 10-4 following kills from Devyn Glassgold and Scarlett Kimbrell.
  • Lynn battled back into the set, but Tech held the lead at the midway point, leading 15-13.
  • The Panthers then used back-to-back kills form Cordelia Kearns to double their lead but Lynn answered right back.
  • The Fighting Knights used a 4-0 run to pull them back into the set but a block from Elisa Broggio kept Tech in the lead.
  • More kills from Kearns and more aces from Courtney Capar still had Tech out front but Lynn continued to respond with big points to pull within one point at 21-20.
  • Despite allowing Lynn to tie the set late, the Panthers got a huge block from Devyn Glassgold and went on to win the set.
Third Set: Florida Tech 25, Lynn 19
  • Feeding off back-to-back set wins, the Panthers opened up the third set with a 3-0 lead.
  • The Fighting Knights got on the board and even battled back to pull within one point but kills from Devyn Glassgold and Cordelia Kearns sparked a huge run and the lead grew back out to 14-8.
  • Tech picked up two more aces and kills form Cordelia Kearns and Scarlett Kimbrell on their way to extending the lead out to 19-11 and in full control of the third set.
  • While Lynn battled back into the set, kills from Kearns and Clark plus a block from Devyn Glassgold and Clark had the Panthers one point away from a sweep.
  • Who else but Cordelia Kearns to earn the last kill of the match for Tech, as they completed the sweep of the 13th-ranked team in the country 3-0.
NOTABLE PANTHERS: BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • With the win tonight, the Panthers are now 3-1 over the last two seasons against Lynn.
  • This is Florida Tech's second-ranked win of the season.
UP NEXT: The Panthers are back at home in less than 24 hours as they host No. 2 Barry on Saturday at 4 PM. This match will serve as the team's Military Appreciation match, honoring those who have and are currently serving our nation's military.
