GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Panther men's indoor track team finished their season at the Celebration Pointe Classic on Friday. The squad totaled 16 career-bests, including three Panthers breaking their PRs in multiple events.
Ben Peck's new mile time is in the top-50 in Division II and sixth in the Southeast Region.
Thomas Carpenter started the day strong, topping an indoor school record with a 15:26.08 and 22
nd place in the 5,000-meter run.
The excitement didn't stop. Two events later, in the 1-mile run, Peck nearly clocked an NCAA DII Qualifying Standard. Peck took seventh place, running a 4:08.89, just .08 seconds off the qualifying time.
Lachlan McCure also ran well, finishing in 26
th place at 4:21.69.
In the 800-meter,
Filippo Bessi and
Jason Hargesheimer torched their personal bests, almost crossing the finish line simultaneously in a photo finish. Hargesheimer slightly passed Bessi with a time of 1:56.91, shaving his personal record by about 10 seconds for 17
th place. Bessi ran a 1:57.04, finishing in 18
th.
More career-bests were surpassed in the 3,000-meter run as
Tyler Herrera scorched an 8:46.31, a whole 16 seconds better than his time at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational. In his first time running the event,
Jake Greene clocked a 9:09.20 for 22
nd place.
Despite having to make a last-second change to their 4x400 meter relay team, the Panthers team still ran a 3:23.38 and grabbed a top-10 finish to end the night.
For our throwers, Santiago Florez-Tascon Gamero tossed a career distance of 12.27 meters in the shot put.
