Men’s Track Wraps Up Indoor Season With Strong Marks

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Panther men's indoor track team finished their season at the Celebration Pointe Classic on Friday. The squad totaled 16 career-bests, including three Panthers breaking their PRs in multiple events. Ben Peck's new mile time is in the top-50 in Division II and sixth in the Southeast Region.

Thomas Carpenter started the day strong, topping an indoor school record with a 15:26.08 and 22nd place in the 5,000-meter run.

The excitement didn't stop. Two events later, in the 1-mile run, Peck nearly clocked an NCAA DII Qualifying Standard. Peck took seventh place, running a 4:08.89, just .08 seconds off the qualifying time. Lachlan McCure also ran well, finishing in 26th place at 4:21.69.

In the 800-meter, Filippo Bessi and Jason Hargesheimer torched their personal bests, almost crossing the finish line simultaneously in a photo finish. Hargesheimer slightly passed Bessi with a time of 1:56.91, shaving his personal record by about 10 seconds for 17th place. Bessi ran a 1:57.04, finishing in 18th.

More career-bests were surpassed in the 3,000-meter run as Tyler Herrera scorched an 8:46.31, a whole 16 seconds better than his time at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational. In his first time running the event, Jake Greene clocked a 9:09.20 for 22nd place.

Despite having to make a last-second change to their 4x400 meter relay team, the Panthers team still ran a 3:23.38 and grabbed a top-10 finish to end the night.

For our throwers, Santiago Florez-Tascon Gamero tossed a career distance of 12.27 meters in the shot put.

UP NEXT:
The Panthers are finished with the indoor season and get set for the outdoor season at the University of Tampa for their invitational on Saturday, February 22.
