GAINESVILLE, Fla. – History was made on Saturday afternoon at Florida Tech men's indoor track third meet of the season. Alachua County Sports and Events Center for a third consecutive weekend on Saturday, this time to compete in Day One of the Legends Invite. For the first time in the program's three-season history, Florida Tech had individual event winners with two Panthers emerging victorious in races that featured athletes from multiple Division I schools. In addition, seven Tech runners set new personal best times.
Sophomore Filippo Bessi recorded the historic first event win by taking the 600 Meter run thanks to a new personal best time of 1:21.64. The Panthers took the top three spots on the medal stand in the event with Mikey Roberts (1:21.72) and Jason Hargesheimer (a new personal best of 1:22.36) taking second and third respectively.
Freshman Roberts won the 400 Meter dash thanks to his time of 48.96s, which was .09 ahead of the closest competitor. That time was a personal best for Roberts, as was the 51.62 put up by Bradley Erskine Jr.. Roberts became the first freshmen Panther to win an indoor event.
In the Panthers' first event of the day, Jake Greene was the Crimson and Gray's first finisher in the Mile with a time of 4:31.78 that set a new personal best by nearly seven seconds, good for 22nd place in a field of 45.
Ese Oguma's personal best time of 22.44s in the 200 Meter dash was good for 10th place. Alex Moynihan also recorded a new personal best time of 24.45s.
Florida Tech's lone field event of the day was in the Weight Throw, where Santiago Florez-Tascon Gamero placed 22nd thanks to his throw of 9.82m.
Concluding the day was the 4000 Medley Relay, earning third place with their effort of 10:18.36.
