Panthers Down No. 21 Rollins in Back-To-Back Extra-Inning Thrillers

MELBOURNE, Fla – The Panthers delivered a pair of dramatic extra-inning victories over No. 21 Rollins on Friday, securing back-to-back walk-off wins from Marshall Burke and Conner Wiggins as Tech edged the Tars 4-3 in 13 innings in game one before clinching a thrilling 3-2 victory in 11 innings in game two.

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • The Panthers got the scoring started in the bottom of the second inning after Gabe Garrett singled through the left side bringing home Pedro Figueroa, 1-0.
  • The Tars answered back in the top of the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly bringing home a runner from third, 1-1.
  • Rollins took their first lead in the top of the sixth inning after a double brought home one run, 2-1.
  • Tech answered back with a score in the bottom of the sixth when Pedro Figueroa induced a fielder's choice bringing home Brett Kelly in the process, 2-2.
  • The Panthers took the momentum in the bottom of the eighth inning as Noah Burke doubled and advanced to third after a Cole Patrick single.
  • The next at-bat, Figueroa then flied out to left field bringing home N. Burke giving Tech the lead 3-2 late.
  • In the top of the ninth inning, a double from the Tars tied the game at 3-3.
  • It would take extra innings to decide a victor as the teams would remain deadlocked at three heading into the tenth inning.
  • The defensive efforts from both clubs turned up to another level as each side would have runners in scoring position in extras but the difference would come in the bottom thirteenth inning as Marshall Burke singled bringing home the game-winning run, 4-3.
  • Jacob Pino got the start for the Panthers lasting seven innings, giving up eight hits and two runs while walking none and striking out five.
  • Ethan Stephens and Noah Steckley took the mound in relief for the Panthers. Stephens lasted three innings giving up three hits and one run while walking two and striking out four. Steckley finished the game earning the win for the Panthers, lasting the game's remaining three innings giving up two hits and zero runs while walking one and striking out two.

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • The Tars broke the scoreless tie in the fourth inning as a single brought in one run.
  • The Panthers managed to tie the ball game in the bottom of that same inning when Cole Patrick doubled to left field, bringing home Pedro Figueroa from second, 1-1.
  • Rollins took the lead once again in the top of the fifth inning with a single to right field bringing home one run, 2-1.
  • Patrick again would bring in a score for the Panthers as he singled to center field bringing home Brett Kelly in the process, 2-2.
  • Again, the Panthers and Tars would be tied and head into extra innings.
  • This time it was Conner Wiggins hitting the sacrifice fly to bring home Marshall Burke and secure the 3-2 win in eleven innings.
  • Trenten Anderson took the start in game two for the Panthers lasting five innings, giving up eleven hits and two runs while walking one and striking out three.
  • Sean Means and Brayden DiCerb made an appearance in relief. Means lasted asting five innings, giving up three hits and zero runs while walking none and striking out one.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • The game one win moves Noah Steckley up to a team-high four wins on the season.
  • Game one is the longest game since a 7-6, 14-inning win at Palm Beach Atlantic on May 2, 2021.
  • Game one was Marshall Burke's second career walk-off hit, the other being a single on February 16, 2024, vs. Augusta.
  • All-time vs. Rollins: 77-88-1
  • Since the start of 2015, the Panthers hold a now 22-15 advantage in the series.
  • Tech is now 36-22 at home vs. Rollins since 1991 and achieved their first three-game series win against the Tars since a sweep on May 9-11, 2019.
