Panthers Dominate at Neutral Site

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – A single inning was all it took for Tech to break open what seemed to be a competitive matchup. Behind a dominant 11-run fourth inning, the Panthers overwhelmed West Virginia Wesleyan, cruising to a 12-2 victory.

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • This game looked like it had all the makings to be a tight matchup that would come down to the wire. That was until an explosive fourth inning by the Panthers blew the game wide open.
  • Marshall Burke got Techs' scoring started with a double that brought in Cole Patrick. Anthony Fimiano doubled bringing home M. Burke to follow. Conner Wiggins then doubled bringing home two, Jacob Guthrie and Fimiano.
  • Brett Kelly was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, earning an RBI and bringing home Wiggins. Patrick singled earning two RBIs bringing home Adrian Dominguez and Gabe Garrett.
  • The highlight of the inning came from Noah Burke as he homered adding three runs, bringing home Patrick, and Kelly. The very next at-bat, M. Burke solo homered to put Tech up 11-0.
  • The Bobcats managed to get two runs on the board, coming in the seventh inning as an error from a fielder's choice brought in two scores still trailing 11-2.
  • The final run came from Guthrie as Austin Sewell hit a sacrifice fly to right field extending up to 10 in which the Panthers held to the finish collecting the win.
  • Josh Beck collected the win for Tech lasting four innings giving up one hit, and zero runs while walking none and striking out one.
  • Payton McIntosh, Ryan Spitzer, Chris Wolf, and Nicholas Jukovich all made an appearance in relief for the Panthers finishing out the game.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Every Panther in the lineup registered at least one hit on the night
  • All-time vs. West Virginia Wesleyan now 3-0
  • First meeting between teams since a 17-2 Panther victory on March 4, 2008, in Melbourne, Fla.

UP NEXT: The Panthers will stay in on the road and travel to West Palm Beach to take on the PBA Sailfish in a weekend series from Friday, March 7 through Saturday with the first pitch on Friday starting at 5pm.
