Panthers Prevail in Extra Innings Against Barry

MIAMI SHORES, FLA. – Panther Baseball was back on the road this evening as they traveled south for a non-conference regional clash with Barry University.

NON-CONFERENCE – GAME THIRTEEN
Final/12 Innings: Florida Tech Panthers 10, Barry Buccaneers 8
Records: Florida Tech (12-8, 3-3 SSC) | Barry (14-8, 2-4 SSC)
Location: Feinbloom Field | Miami Shores, Florida

GAME NOTES:
  • The Panthers earned the game's first hits in the top of the first after Gabe Roque and Brian Perez each singled. Despite the back-to-back singles, both were left stranded in scoring position.
  • While Tech earned the game's first base hit, Barry brought home the game's first run in the bottom of the first. The Buccaneers rallied for three runs off five hits to take an early lead.
  • Barry then added another run in the bottom of the second to lead 4-0 after two innings of play.
  • The Panthers responded in the top of the fifth with three straight hits to produce a two-run inning and cut the deficit in half. Jaden Hill led off the inning with a double and William Rollings and Marshall Burke both singled to left center.
  • Despite Tech finally getting on the board, Barry responded right away with a two-run bottom of the fifth to re-extend their lead.
  • The Tech offense was starting to heat up, they produced another two-spot in the top of the sixth to put themselves within two runs of the Buccaneers.
  • Needing a shutdown inning, Bryson Walker delivered on the mound by tossing a three-up-three-down bottom of the sixth.
  • Trailing 6-4, the Panthers went right back to work and produced another two-run inning. After loading the bases, Zade Stark and Jaden Hill drew RBI walks to tie the game at 6-6.
  • Jake Hill entered in relief and worked around traffic to toss a shutout inning, sending the contest to the eighth inning tied.
  • Feeding off the momentum they gained from the past four innings, Tech rallied for their fifth straight two-run inning in the top of the eighth. The Panthers took the lead off a Gabe Roque sacrifice fly and extended the lead to 8-6 after Brian Perez singled to left to score Adrian Dominguez.
  • Barry responded with a solo home run, but Blake Holshouser battled to keep Tech in the lead 8-7 as the game reached the ninth inning.
  • Unfortunately for Tech, after they were held scoreless in the top of the ninth, the Buccaneers pushed across another run to tie the game at eight and send the contest to extra innings.
  • The Panthers were shut out again in the top of the tenth and the eleventh, but Noah Steckley entered the game and tossed back-to-back 1-2-3 innings with two strikeouts, leading to more free baseball in Miami.
  • In the top of the twelfth, William Rollings and Marshall Burke earned free passes to lead off the inning. A successful sacrifice bunt from Adrian Dominguez moved them to scoring position at second and third. After Gabe Roque was intentionally walked, Brian Perez hit a sacrifice fly to score Rollings and give the Panthers the lead.
  • Tech then earned an insurance run when Marcello Cortale singled to score Burke from second base and add an insurance run.
  • Noah Steckley trotted back out to the mound in the bottom of the twelfth and shut down the Buccaneers to win the game, ending the contest with a big-time strikeout.
