GAME NOTES:
- Saint Leo struck right away to begin today's doubleheader. The Lions scored four runs on three hits in the top of the first to take an early lead.
- Ryan Spitzer settled into his outing to keep the Lions off the scoreboard in the second and third innings, but the Panther bats were unable to respond.
- Hits from Marcello Cortale, plus a walk from Anthony Fimiano gave the Panthers base runners in the first few innings but they were still held scoreless.
- Saint Leo grew the lead to 6-0 in the top of the fourth by way of a pair of hits and a pair of walks.
- After a shutout inning from local product Jake Hershey, the Panthers exploded in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs, the Tech bats rallied for seven runs to storm back and take the lead.
- Justis Meadows and William Rollings got the rally started with singles and scored on the next two hits from Adrian Dominguez and Marcello Cortale. After Brian Perez loaded the bases with a free pass, Dominiguez and Cortale then scored a batter later when Marshall Burke doubled.
- The bases were then reloaded after Anthony Fimiano was hit by a pitch and Joseph Phan cut the deficit to one run by inducing an error from the Lions' third baseman. In his second at-bat of the inning and the bases still juiced, Rollings singled again through the 5-6 hole to score both Fimiano and Burke and give the Panthers a 7-6 lead.
- While Saint Leo responded in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 7-7, Brady Guthrie entered the game, and both shut down the threat and tossed a 1-2-3 seventh.
- Unfortunately for Tech, they were unable to feed off the momentum they had gained, and Saint Leo took it right back with a four-run top of the eighth to take back the lead.
- The Panthers were able to load the bases with two outs in the bottom of the eighth and earn a pair of base runners in the ninth, but could not capitalize, and the Lions took game one.
