Dylan Anderson Named Head Men's Cross Country and Track Coach

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida Tech Director of Athletics, Jamie Joss, has announced the hiring of Dylan Anderson as the Panthers' new Head Cross Country and Track Coach. Anderson will begin his new post on July 20th.

Anderson brings more than a decade of collegiate coaching experience at both the NCAA Division I and Division II levels, along with a proven track record of building successful programs, developing scholar-athletes, and fostering a culture of competitive excellence both on the course and in the classroom.

"In Dylan, we found a coach who embodies what Florida Tech Athletics is about," said Joss. "His track record speaks for itself. He built the Erskine track and field programs from the ground up, developed nine conference champions, and most recently led at the Division I level at Evansville. His coaching expertise across distance, sprints, hurdles, and jumps gives us a complete leader for every event.

"What set him apart is his commitment to developing the whole person, not just the athlete. As a Fort Pierce native with deep Florida connections, he will recruit young men of character who excel in the classroom, compete for Sunshine State Conference championships, and grow into principled leaders prepared for anything in front of them.

"We also want to honor Pete Mazzone for 40 years of dedicated leadership in cross country and track. Pete laid the groundwork for this program, and Dylan inherits that foundation with deep respect for his years of service."

Anderson arrives in Melbourne after serving as the Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach at the University of Evansville, where he oversaw all aspects of the men's and women's programs, including recruiting, academic monitoring, and student-athlete development.

"We are excited to welcome Dylan into the Florida Tech Athletics family," said Senior Associate Athletic Director, Tara Van Ness. "His passion for developing scholar-athletes, commitment to building a positive team culture, and clear vision for the future of our cross country and track programs made him an outstanding fit. We are confident he will elevate the competitiveness of the team within the Sunshine State Conference while fostering a culture of grit and growth for our scholar-athletes both on the course, track and the classroom."

Prior to Evansville, Anderson spent six seasons at Erskine College, where he launched the institution's men's and women's track & field programs while leading the cross-country teams. Under his leadership, Erskine produced nine Conference Carolinas champions, all-conference performers, and a national qualifier. His teams consistently demonstrated growth both competitively and academically as he established a strong foundation for long-term success.

He earned numerous all-conference, and all-region honors across cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field, including individual conference champions in events ranging from the 800 meters through the 10,000 meters, the mile, steeplechase, hurdles, and relay events.

In his final season at Erskine, Anderson coached the Conference Carolinas Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, who captured conference titles in the 1,500 meters, 5,000 meters, and 10,000 meters, while the program also produced multiple conference champions and all-conference performers across both the men's and women's teams. Under Anderson's leadership, the Flying Fleet established a strong competitive foundation and consistently produced standout performances at the conference and regional levels.

"I am incredibly honored and excited to accept the position of Head Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track Coach at Florida Tech," said Anderson. "I would like to sincerely thank President Nicklow and Director of Athletics Jamie Joss for the trust and confidence they have placed in me to lead this program.

"From our very first conversations, it was clear that Florida Tech is committed to excellence both academically and athletically. I am humbled by the opportunity to build upon that tradition and to serve an institution that values innovation, student success, and competitive excellence.

"My wife and I are excited to become part of the Florida Tech community, and I cannot wait to get to Melbourne and begin the work of building a program that everyone can be proud of.

"I would also like to express my deepest gratitude to the University of Evansville. I am thankful for the opportunity to work alongside exceptional colleagues and coach remarkable student-athletes who have made a lasting impact on my life. A special thank you goes to Prez P, Ziggy, and Joel Zimba, for their unwavering support, mentorship, and confidence in me throughout my time at Evansville.

"Most importantly, I want to thank every student-athlete I had the privilege to coach at Evansville. Watching you develop as athletes and as people has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career, and I will always cherish the relationships and memories we created together. I believe in leaving a situation better than where you found it and I am satisfied knowing that I will hand the baton off in a better place than I received it.

"As Jayla and I begin this next chapter, we do so with sincere gratitude for everyone who has supported us throughout our journey. We are excited to join the Florida Tech family and look forward to investing in the university, our scholar-athletes, and the Melbourne community."

Prior to his time at Erskine, Anderson was the Assistant Cross Country/Track and Field Coach at the College of Charleston. In his Division I stop, Anderson assisted with the cross-country team while also being the event coach for the team's sprint and hurdle runners. During that time, Anderson coached the 400-meter hurdle school record holder for the Cougars.

Anderson moved to the College of Charleston following a year and a half as the Assistant Cross Country/Track and Field Coach at Division II Anderson University in Anderson, S.C. With the Trojans, Anderson coached an All-American in the 200 meter race and a national qualifier in the 100 meter dash while supervising the sprints, hurdles, and jumps events.

Anderson began his coaching career as an Assistant Cross-Country Intern with Division II Francis Marion University. With the Patriots he interned with the cross-country team while also serving as their strength and conditioning coach.

A native of Fort Pierce, Florida, Anderson earned his bachelor's degree in Sport Management with a coaching concentration from North Greenville University and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Leadership with a Strategic Leadership concentration from the University of Evansville. He also holds USTFCCCA certifications as both an Endurance Specialist and a Sprints, Hurdles & Relays Specialist.
