MELBOURNE, Fla. — Florida Tech Athletics and Head Coach Dylan Anderson announced today the hiring of Chandler Barnett as an associate head coach for the track and assistant cross country coach. Barnett, who brings a strong background in NCAA Division II track and field, high-level athlete development, and a proven championship pedigree, will officially begin his duties on August 10, 2026.
"Building a championship program starts with building a championship staff," said Coach Anderson. "Chandler Barnett brings outstanding technical expertise, relentless energy, and a passion for developing student-athletes. His experience in a national level program at Pitt State and our shared roots at North Greenville make him a tremendous addition as we look to elevate this program."
Barnett joins the Panthers after serving as a Graduate Assistant track and field coach at Pittsburg State University from August 2024 through 2026. During his tenure with the Gorillas, he focused on sprints, hurdles, jumps, and multi-events while assisting with practice organization, team travel logistics, home meet administration, academic oversight, and high school and transfer portal recruiting.
While at Pittsburg State, Barnett contributed to remarkable competitive success, assisting in coaching 2025 World 110m Hurdle Champion Cordell Tinch. He also coached a U20 qualifier in the decathlon with 7,038 points, a Division II national provisional qualifier in the women's 400m hurdles, and assisted in coaching 70 individual All-Americans and five team national titles.
Prior to his time at Pittsburg State, Barnett was a standout runner at North Greenville University, serving as a three-year team captain from 2021 to 2024 and earning All-Conference honors in the outdoor 400m hurdles in 2022. Leadership defined his collegiate tenure, serving as Vice President of North Greenville's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and representing the university at Conference Carolinas annual meetings. He also completed a conference-level internship with Conference Carolinas, gaining experience in compliance and championship execution.
Barnett holds a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management from North Greenville University and a Master of Science in Human Performance and Wellness from Pittsburg State University. He holds professional certifications through USATF as a Level 1 coach, the USTFCCCA as a Sprints, Hurdles, and Relays Event Specialist, and the NSCA.
"Thank you, Dylan Anderson, for offering me the opportunity to join Florida Tech as the Associate Head Track & Field/Assistant Cross Country Coach," said Barnett. "I am excited to take this next step in my coaching career and contribute to the building of a successful program. I truly appreciate his confidence in me, and I look forward to bringing my knowledge, energy, work ethic, and passion for developing student-athletes to Florida Tech."
