CARROLLTON, Ga. (Volleyball) – After a strong performance on Friday, in which Florida Tech won both of its matchups, the team returned to action Saturday against another Gulf South Conference opponent in Mississippi College (2-20). The Panthers pounced on the Choctaws in their first ever matchup, winning in straight sets 25-21, 30-28, 25-18.

Senior Alea Hamm paced FIT with 13 kills and three blocks, while classmate Marilyn Dick recorded 10 kills on a match-high attack percentage of .533 to go along with her four digs and one block. Fellow senior Kim Juriga added seven kills and two digs.

A number of freshmen contributed in the Panthers' win, including Olivia Hersey who registered 10 kills and three blocks. Kelly Germain notched a team-high seven digs, also a season-high for the freshman. Initiating the offense for FIT was another rookie, Kiersten Rosa, who collected a season-high 30 assists in addition to three digs and one block.

The Panthers continued the efficient display of offense from its previous win over West Georgia, in which FIT finished with a season-best .344 attack percentage, by hitting at a .321 clip against MC. The Choctaws, on the other hand, were held to an attack percentage of .196 in the match.

FIT will return to Sunshine State Conference action on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at Rollins. The Panthers won the first matchup this season in a 3-0 sweep of the Tars on Sept. 19 at the Clemente Center. Game time for the second contest is set for 7 p.m. ET at the Harold & Ted Alfond Sports Center.
