INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Men's Swimming) – Florida Tech gained another quartet of All-Americans on Saturday at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships at the UI Natatorium as FIT's 400-yard freestyle relay team finished eighth at the national meet.
The team, consisting of Nir Barnea, Filip Dujmic, Victor Rocha Furtado and Thomas Steenberg, timed in at 3:00.23 after setting a 2:58.94 in prelims during the morning session.
In the only other action of the day for the Panthers, Barnea narrowly missed out on advancing to the finals in the 100 free, making the final touch in 44.50 for a new school record and the second alternate spot. Barnea broke the record held for just moments by Dujmic, who finished in 44.79 for 22nd. Rocha Furtado came in at 45.22 for 32nd.
"We're really happy for the guys," said head coach Justin Andrade. "They handled the pressure of this week very well and had some great swims. It was a culmination of the hard work they put in all season. The highlight of the week is seeing the team become more of a family and making each other better in and out of the pool. They're a young team. With hard work and dedication, the future of FIT swimming is very bright."
The Panthers conclude the 2015-16 season with a number of memorable moments, including the first Panther Invitational, first men's Sunshine State Conference gold medalist, first All-Americans and ballooning the number of swimmers to compete at the NCAA Championships in program history from two to nine.
