Panthers Achieve High Marks on Day Two of Panther Invite

FIT swimmers win four finals, break two program records and set six B-standard times on Saturday






MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Panther swim teams competed in day two of the Panther Invitational on Saturday and earned a number of impressive results at the Panther Aquatic Center.

Through two days of competition the Panthers' women's team sits in sixth place with 249 points. Georgia Southern is the top team in the women's standings with 559 points, followed by West Florida (534) in second and Tampa (526) in third. Saint Leo (369) and North Florida (359) round out the top five in the standings.

The Florida Tech men are in first place with 280 points, while Saint Leo (237) and Tampa (157) are second and third in the men's standings, respectively.

The Crimson and Gray's "A" relay of Paulina Bjorkbacka, Savannah Brennan, Mikaela Barger and Valentina Carvajal took eighth in the women's 200 medley relay in a time of 1:47.52.

FIT's men's 200 medley "A" and "B" relays finished second and third in their final, respectively. The "A" relay of Adi Davidov, Corey Ollivierre, Filip Dujmic and Victor Rocha Furtado posted a time of 1:31.12 to take second overall. The "B" relay of Carlos Obregon, Dain Rust, Kerry Ollivierre and Edward Ilako ended in third at 1:32.87.

Brennan set another school record this weekend in the women's 400 individual medley, finishing in third place in the race with a B-standard time of 4:29.13.

Jose Coiman-Acosta took the top spot in the finals of the men's 400 IM in a time of 4:09.38.

The Florida Tech men dominated the 100 butterfly final, earning three of the top four positions in the race. Rocha Furtado won the heat in a B-standard time of 48.48. Dujmic took second in a B-standard time of 48.76 and Davidov ended fourth at 49.06, just missing the B-standard time of 49.13.

Carvajal won the women's 200 freestyle, and broke her own school record in the process, finishing with a B-standard time of 1:51.55.

The Panther men also dominated the 200 freestyle final, grabbing the top three spots in the race. Emanuele Rossi won the race in a B-standard time of 1:39.46, followed by Thomas Steenberg in second at a B-standard of 1:39.74. In third place was Harry Sale, who ended just .15 off the B-standard time at 1:40.46.

Samuel Hartle (1:43.24) and Yohann Emmert (1:44.10) took the top two positions in the 200 freestyle consolation final.

In the men's 100 breaststroke, Corey Ollivierre (56.09) and Dain Rust (56.44) finished second and third in the final, both just missing the B-standard time of 55:56.

Brandon Blair (59.96) and Dominic Allard (1:01.24) took the top two spots in the 100 breaststroke consolation final.

Carlos Obregon (52.17), Lukas Burchianti (53.37) and Ferron Van Ritter (55.17) finished third, fifth and sixth, respectively, in the men's 100 backstroke final.

The men's 800 freestyle "A" relay of Rossi, Steenberg, Sale and Emmert concluded session four's action with a second place finish in their race at a time of 6:44.97.

The 2017 Panther Invitational concludes on Sunday with session five beginning at 10 a.m. and the final session of the weekend starting at 4:30 p.m.
