MELBOURNE, Fla. - Florida Tech baseball opened its park to Sunshine State Conference rival, Embry-Riddle, for the first game in their three-game series. The game was a thriller that did not reveal the victor to the till final frame as FIT grabbed the win, 4-3, on a walk-off sacrifice fly.
Ty Cohen found himself in his familiar role of leading the Crimson and Gray into battle. During his six-inning appearance, he gave up three runs and eight hits. But, sent 10 of 27 back to the dugout on strikes.
Justin Barney was tasked with following the Panthers ace. He put in two and a thirds innings of work during which he allowed no runs and just two hits. He also sat down one Eagle during his relief effort.Â
Drew Beyer came in to close the game for FIT as he found a way to send the final two batters back to their bench.
Leading the offensive charge for FIT, was
Jacob Buser,Â
Jakob Newton,
Raul Quintero and
Tyler Brown. These four managed to find a hole in the Eagles defense multiple times during the night.Â
FIT struck first in the game thanks to a single to right field by freshman, Brown, in the bottom of the fourth. Embry-Riddle responded in the next half inning and snagged their first lead of the night after driving in two runs.
The Eagles then extended their lead to 3-1 in the top of the sixth off of a single to left center field. ERAU's lead did not last for long as two pitching blunders sent home Buser and
Zac Orchard in the bottom of the inning. This tied the game at three all.
The night got quiet until the bottom of the ninth when a walk-off run scored thanks to a Newton sac fly to right that gave pinch runner
Matt DiNenna enough time to cross home plate safely to ensure the Panthers 4-3 victory.
Florida Tech will look to use this win to propel themselves to a series victory tomorrow over ERAU. This game is set to begin at 3 p.m. and you can follow the action live at FloridaTechSports.com/live.
