BOCA RATON Fla. - Florida Tech baseball traveled down to South Florida for its first weekend series away from Andy Seminick - Les Hall Field in over a month. The change of scenery did the team good as the Panthers powered pasted Lynn, 17-6, on Friday night.
Panthers' aceÂ
Ty Cohen graced the mound first as he put in six innings of work. During his time on the rubber, Cohen gave up six runs on nine hits but sent three batters back to the dugout on strikes.
Matt Coles was the next member of the pitching staff to do battle against Lynn. Coles put together a near perfect save as he allowed no runs and only three hits in the final three frames.Â
Jacob Buser was the most potent Panther at the plate as he went 2-for-5 with three runs, five RBIs, one homerun and a walk.
James Gronberg also had a huge day at the plate as he went 3-for-6 and tallied two runs and three RBIs.
The game started off with the Fighting Knights putting up four runs in the bottom of the first. FIT would not get on the board until the top of the third when Gronberg sent a shot up the middle that scoredÂ
Jakob Newton.
The Crimson and Gray hit their stride in the top half of the fourth inning when eight runners crossed the plate safely. A
Daniel Szpik double that sent
Ryan Sinzenich home kicked off the rally. Additionally,
Raul Quintero,Â
Rodnie Bernard, Gronberg,
Zac Orchard, Buser and
Kevin Capella batted in at least one run in the fourth. This offensive explosion brought the score to 9-4.
Lynn cut the lead to four in the fifth inning as Patrick Dorrian got a run home despite hitting into a double play. The Fighting Knights narrowed the gap again in the bottom of the sixth off a single through the left side.Â
FIT widened the margin to 14-6 in the seventh thanks to another strong batting performance. Bernard batted in the first of five runs in the inning when he hit a double to right center that scored Quintero. Gronberg later singled through the right side to score Bernard.
Buser added the final three runs of the seventh when he smacked a dinger over the right-center wall.
Florida Tech extended the lead to 17-6 in the eighth as Quintero and Bernard each batted in a run. The final run of the night came off a wild pitch that allowed Quintero to trot across the bag.
The Panthers will look to build on this offensive momentum Saturday, Apr. 7, when they look to earn the series win over the Fighting Knights. Game two is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. and can be watched live at FloridaTechSports.com/live
