A Late Rally Dooms Florida Tech in Game Two

A four run seventh cost the Panthers game two

WINTER PARK, Fla. - Looking to even up the series at one game apiece, the Florida Tech baseball team (19-30, 11-18) took the field for game two of the series against the Tars of Rollins College (20-28, 8-21). Despite a hot start for the Panthers, a late game rally by the Tars ultimately cost them the game, 5-4.

Sarasota native Drew Beyer got the start for the Panthers despite being the team's primary closer. Beyer put his versatility on display for six and a third innings during which he surrendered three runs on seven hits.

Jordan Murray (3-4) came in as Beyer's replacement mid-way through the seventh inning.  Murray tossed two-thirds of an inning before he was pulled in favor of Colin Cristello, who threw the final frame for Florida Tech.

In this installment of the three game series, the roles were reversed as the Crimson and Gray came out of the gates hot to grab an early lead. FIT struck first in the top of the second inning as a Tars fielding error allowed Rodnie Bernard to reach first base while his teammate Raul Quintero found his way across home plate.

However, Rollins answered back in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 1-1 as it headed into the third.

Florida Tech then found its groove in its third at-bat as three runs would cross the bag. Kevin Capella earned the first RBI of the inning as he sent a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Jacob Buser. Bernard then picked up two more RBIs when he hit a hard liner through the left side that extended the Panthers' lead to 4-1.

The game then turned into a pitching duel until the bottom of the seventh when Rollins rallied back to gain the lead, 5-4, after batting in four runs. This surge was enough to propel the Tars past FIT as the bats of both teams were quieted over the final inning and a half.

Florida Tech will look to close out their season on a high note as they take on Rollins Saturday afternoon in the Panthers' final game of the year. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. in Winter Park. Fans can follow the action live at FloridaTechSports.com/live.
