Panthers Run the Tars Aground

A nine inning masterpiece by Ty Cohen pushes Florida Tech past Rollins

A masterful nine-inning performance put in by senior pitcher Ty Cohen guided the Panthers to a 6-1 victory over Rollins College in Florida Tech's season finale Saturday at Alfond Stadium at Harper-Shepherd Field.

In his final time donning the Crimson & Gray, Cohen notched his second complete game of the season while only allowing one run on three hits and striking out a career-high 15 batters.

Another senior took the reins at the plate as outfielder Kevin Capella went 3-for-4 with one run. Raul Quintero also had a big day for FIT as he collected two hits in three at-bats along with two runs, two RBIs and a home run.

Rollins struck first as the Tars found themselves on the board in the bottom of the first, however, this was the last time they'd cross home plate as they were shut down in their final eight plate appearances.

Florida Tech did not let the Tars hold the lead for long as Quintero smacked a two-run dinger over the left field fence to give the Panthers the lead for the rest of the afternoon.

Ryan Sinzenich scored Quintero in the fourth thanks to his SSC-leading 50th walk of the season. Later in the frame, Jacob Buser found a gap in center field that allowed both James Gronberg and Jakob Newton to cross home safely to bring the score to 5-1.

The final run came in the top of the seventh when a passed ball gave Zac Orchard the time he needed to trot across the bag.

The Panthers finish the 2018 season at 20-30 and 12-18 in SSC play. Florida Tech will now look forward to the 2019 season.
