MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – After dropping game two of its series with Barry (21-26, 9-16 SSC), Florida Tech (19-28, 11-16 SSC) righted the ship by earning a 13-10 win in the finale to clinch the series, 2-1.
Â
The day started off with the Panthers closing out the final half inning of game two before the start of game three.
Â
Colin Cristello kicked off the action in the third game. He gave up five runs on six hits and sent four batters to the pine over three innings of work.
Â
Cristello was replaced by
Jordan Murray heading into the fourth inning and he too tossed three complete frames. During his time on the mound, Murray had a near perfect outing as he did not allow a run and only two hits.
Â
Justin Barney (2-1) and
Drew Beyer closed out the final three innings of the afternoon. Barney tallied two and a third innings worth of work before turning the game over to Beyer. The senior earned the final two outs to seal the Panthers' win.
Â
Similar to game one, Florida Tech found itself down early, trailing the Bucs, 5-0, heading into the top of the fifth inning. The tides then began to turn as the Crimson and Gray rattled off three runs to make the score 5-3.
Â
Vincenzo Catanza was the first to push runners across the bag when he sent a shot to center field that earned him a double and brought home both
Rodnie Bernard and
Jakob Newton. Later in the fifth, a bunt by
Raul Quintero scored Catanza from third.
Â
Quintero recorded two more RBI in the seventh when he found a gap in center field that gave
James Gronberg and Catanza enough time to cross home plate. Buser then got Quintero home off of a single through the right side to give FIT its first lead of the game at 6-5.
Â
Florida Tech then proceeded to bust the game wide open in the eighth as they put up seven runs headlined by a two-run
Ryan Sinzenich home run.
Â
Daniel Szpik and Quintero both drove in runs in the inning while the final two runs of the inning occurred as a result of Barry errors.
Â
The Bucs tacked on five more runs in their final two at-bats but it would not be enough to overtake Florida Tech, and the Panthers went on to claim game three, and the series, by a three-run margin.Â
Â
FIT will head back to Melbourne to ready itself for the Panthers' final series of the 2018 season against the Rollins Tars. The series is set to begin on Thursday, May 10, at 1 p.m. at Alfond Stadium Field in Winter Park. Fans can follow the action on FloridaTechSports.com/live.
