Three Panthers Make History in Loss to Tampa

Fanny Hakanson, Gudlaug Juliusdottir and Amanda Allen all etch their names into the Florida Tech record books

Box Score TAMPA, Fla. – In their final road game of the season, the Panthers took a trip to the Gulf Coast for a battle against the Tampa Spartans. Florida Tech put forth a strong effort but it could not upset UT as they loss, 55-83.

Fanny Hakanson was a force on the offensive end as she had a team-high 16 points and tied Amanda Allen and Fanny Paulin for the most assists with three. Severine Uggen and Paulin pulled in the most boards for Tech as they each had five.

Despite the loss, a few celebratory moments surfaced in the contest as both Gudluag Juliusdottir and Hakanson move into the Panthers' all-time top-10 in assist and Hakanson is now seventh in single-season assists. Allen also etched her name into the history books thanks to her three treys she is now 10th in a single season with 54.

Florida Tech had one of its best opening quarters of the season as the team had the three-point shot working for them throughout the first 10 minutes. This prolific shooting from beyond the arc helped them make it a 20-13 game with 26 ticks left on the clock. However, a late Tampa bucket put the score at 20-15 as the teams went to their respective benches.

Unfortunately, the second quarter was not as kind to the Crimson & Gray as the baskets did not fall as they were in the first period. While on the other end of the court it seemed the Spartans could not miss. This issue manifested itself in the point's differential for the quarter as Florida Tech had 22 fewer points and this made the halftime tally, 32-49.

The third saw the two team's battle, unlike the first 20 minutes. This back-and-forth affair, outside of a seven-point Tampa run, reflected in the quarter split as it was 14-18. This made it 46-67 as the game went into its final 10 minutes.

The final quarter of the game was another tough one for Florida Tech as the offense was not there and the team scored only nine points. They did put a strong defensive performance together as they limited UT to 16 points and this made the final score 55-83.

Florida Tech will be back at home for its penultimate game of the regular season Saturday, Feb. 22, as the women welcome Nova Southeastern to the Clemente Center for a 2 p.m. ET showdown.
