Women's Soccer's NCAA Run Continues Friday in the South Region Championship

Panthers take on West Florida for the South Region title on Friday, Dec. 3, at 2 p.m. EST

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Tech women's soccer team continues its NCAA Tournament run with a Sweet 16 matchup with West Florida in the South Region Championship Game on Friday, Dec. 3, in Pensacola, Fla.

West Florida, the No. 3 seed in the South Region, is the highest remaining seed in the South and Southeast Regions and is therefore hosting both regional championships on Friday at the UWF Soccer Complex.

No. 4 seed Flagler and No. 7 seed Lenoir-Rhyne kick off Friday's action at 11 a.m. EST for the Southeast Region Championship and the matchup between the No. 5 seed Panthers and Argos will follow at 2 p.m. EST.

Florida Tech earned a spot in the Sweet 16 following a pair of thrilling victories in the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament two weeks ago in Cleveland, Tenn.

The Panthers defeated Mississippi College 4-1 in penalty kicks after a scoreless 110 minutes of play in the first round on Nov. 19. Tech then came back from a 1-0 deficit to South Region No. 1 seed Lee and won 3-2 in penalty kicks, handing the Flames their first loss of the season.

West Florida defeated Valdosta State (2-1) and Embry-Riddle (1-0) during the opening rounds of the tournament in Daytona Beach.

Friday's South Region Championship will be just the fifth meeting between Florida Tech and West Florida. The Argos lead the series 3-1. The Panthers only win came in a 2-1 overtime victory on Sept. 4, 2016. Tech is 0-2 versus UWF in Pensacola.

The winner of Friday's regional championships will face-off in the NCAA Quarterfinals on Sunday at 2 p.m. EST at UWF Soccer Complex for a chance to earn a spot in next week's NCAA Division II Final Four at Switchbacks FC Stadium in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Live coverage links for Friday's contest, along with the tournament home page, can be found in the links above as well as on Florida Tech's schedule page.

Tickets can be purchased at the gates, $5 for adults and $3 for students, senior citizens, and children ages 2-12. Children under the age of 2 receive free admission to game.
