MELBOURNE – Florida Tech women's soccer were excited for their first home match in almost a month. This excitement helped power the Panthers past the Tars, 1-0.
Daniela Tobon scored the lone goal of the game.
Maria Sanchez Recuero and
Miranda Choplin split the duties in goal for the Crimson & Gray.
"It was a good game for us," said
Ryan Moon. "We have been doing well this Spring with trying to keep clean sheets and keep organized defensively and then see what we got going forward. We did that again today and defended very well and very organized."
Rollins came out the gate fast as they were on the attack for the first few minutes of the contest. However, the momentum flips after about 10 minutes as the Panthers tightened up and eventually began applying the pressure themselves. This attacking mentality paid off when
Daniela Tobon found the back of the net in the 23
rd minute.
Florida Tech almost doubled its lead a few minutes later, but a well-timed block stopped the chance. This was the best chance of either side for the rest of the half as the score held at 1-0.
The second half continued as the first half ended as Tech had the Tars on their heels for most of the period, but it did not lead to another goal. So at the final whistle, Florida Tech held onto the 1-0 victory.
The Panthers' next game will be their Saturday, April 10 contest against Florida Southern. This showdown takes place at 11 a.m. ET on Rick Stottler Field.
