MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Tech men's swimming program opened the 2022-23 season on Friday at the Shark Invitational in Fort Lauderdale and the Tyr Fall Classic in Miami.
Tyr Fall Classic
After Day One of the Tyr Fall Classic, the Panthers are in fifth place with 169 points.
Daniel Aizenberg placed fourth in the 100 Back A Final, his first individual event of the season, thanks to a time of 52.39, only .04 outside of a podium finish.
Max Martino took sixth in the 200 Free A Final with a time of 1:50.00, while freshman
Matthew Goembel placed fifth in the B Final thanks to a 1:46.15 time.
Josh Davis earned fifth place in the 400 IM A Final with a 4:25.41 time as
Kyle Gibson's time of 4:14.81 saw him in third for the B Final.
The 100 Fly event saw
Colin Goddard take sixth thanks to his 53.68 effort as Jay Jay Fonnotto took third in the B Final with a time of 50.41, less than a second off of the top spot. Goddard went on to take fourth in the 100 Back B Final thanks to a time of 54.41.
Martino went on to finish sixth in the 50 Free A Final with a 21.73 time with
Joshua Cajuste earning fifth in the B Final with a 22.01 finish.
Connor Orth finished sixth in the 100 Breast A Final with a time of 58.26 as Gibson placed fifth with a finish of 59.03
In relay action, the squad of Aizenberg, Gibson, Fonnotto and Cajuste earned fourth in the 400 Medley Relay thanks to a time of 3:26.96, while the group of Cajuste, Martino, Goembel and Aizenberg saw their 1:27.66 time place them in fifth for the 200 Free Relay.

500 Free
Six Panthers finished inside the Top 30 with
Josh McLean's 13th place time of 4:53.29 as the best of the bunch.
200 IM
Jacob Sykora 25th place time of 2:04.00 was tops among the six Panther competitors
200 Fly
Nathan Scott took 14th place with a 2:04.17 time,
Camden Bell immediately followed him with a finish of 2:05.45 and
Camden Bell rounded out Tech's effort in 21st at 2:16.20
50 Free
Of the 15 who took to the pool for the Crimson and Gray in the event,
Benny Firtag's time of 22 seconds even led the way and was good for 15th place.
200 Back
Sean Catron was Florida Tech's lone competitor in the event and finished 21st with a time of 2:06.70.
100 Free
Nathaniel Allen 19th place time of 48.49 seconds was the best of the 14 Panthers who swam in the event.
200 Breast
David Armstrong, Colby Garthwaitte and
Michael Panariello finished 18th, 19th and 21st respectively, separated by only two seconds in total.
200 Free Relay
The team of
Nathaniel Allen,
Colin Harrison,
Josh McLean,
Benny Firtag had Tech's best finish of the four in the event by earning a ninth-place finish thanks to a time of 1:27.53.
UP NEXT: The Panthers will return to action at both events on Saturday with the Shark Invitational scheduled to start at 8:30 A.M. and the Tyr Fall Classic lined up for a 10 A.M. start.
