Baseball Completes Weekend Sweep of Tuskegee

Panthers take down Golden Tigers 14-2 in game one and 6-3 in game two

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

STATS OF GAME ONE:
  • Florida Tech took the lead in the opening frame through a Brett Parrish single to left that scored Jakob Newton.
  • The Golden Tigers tied the game in the top of the third on an RBI groundout by Cody Willis.
  • Tech would retake the lead for good with two runs in the bottom half of the inning through RBI singles from Parrish and Dylan Owens. 
  • The Panthers added five runs each in the fourth and sixth.
  • Eight Panther starters recorded a hit, with five having multi-hit efforts. 
  • Owens and Parrish both had three hits and four RBI. 
  • Panther starting pitcher Justin Lorenz surrendered two runs on three hits across six innings of work, 48 of his 70 pitches went for strikes. 
  • Joey Hecht took over for Lorenz and proceeded to allow only one hit over the final three innings while striking out seven against one walk. 
 
STATS OF GAME TWO:
  • Florida Tech scored in four of the first five innings, including three in the fifth.
  • Paul Castillo went two-for-three with a triple, the Panthers' only extra-base hit of the game, and two RBI
  • Noah Steckley, making his first college start, gave up one run on two hits in three innings, striking out four and walking none.
  • Danny Vassallo earned the win in relief of Steckley by dealing 2 1/3 innings of one-hit shutout ball, striking out three and walking none in the process. Vassallo needed only 28 pitches, 22 of which were strikes. 
  • Alex Carpenter, the Sunshine State Conference saves leader in 2021, earned his first of the season by retiring the Golden Tigers in order in the top of the seventh. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Panthers now lead the all-time series 6-0.
  • Castillo hit .500 (5-10) for the series with 3 XBH and 2 RBI
  • Sam Schner hit .636 for the series (7-11) with 6 RBI and 3 XBH
  • Brett Parrish hit .416 for the series (5-12) with 7 RBI
  • Jakob Newton logged 7 RBI in the series
  • Dylan Owens hit .416 for the series (5-12) for the series with 6 RBI
 
UP NEXT:  The Panthers return to action on Friday at 6:00 PM at Seminick-Hall Field when they begin a three-game series with Bentley.
