Varsity 4 Picks Up Two Wins as Men's Rowing Takes on Rollins, Stetson and JU

FELLSMERE, Fla. – It was a busy day at Canal-54 for the men's crew on Saturday as the Panthers faced off against Rollins and Stetson in the morning before returning for a matchup with Jacksonville in the afternoon. 
 
The V8+ took second in both races of the day. Tech finished with a time of 6:00 in the morning session, falling to Stetson (5:58) by just two seconds and ending 24 seconds ahead of Rollins (6:24). The Eight improved on its morning time against JU, ending in 5:53. Jacksonville's 1V claimed the win at 5:47 while JU's 2V finished third at 6:01.
 
The Panthers' V4+ cruised to a pair of wins on Saturday. Tech finished first against SU and RC with a time of 6:47. Rollins took second at 7:00 followed by Stetson at 7:23. The crew then dominated JU in its second race of the day ending with a time of 6:37, well ahead of the Dolphins' boat (7:03).
 
The Pair crossed the finish line in 7:34 to take second place against Stetson (7:21) and Rollins (8:52). However, the duo bounced back for a win over Jacksonville, finishing with a time of 7:23 ahead of JU (7:35).

"Tough day with two races against good competition, but it was a good practice run for when we head up to Virginia in a few weeks and then SIRA's after that," said senior V8+ coxswain Ben Komita. "We will see both teams again later in the season and we're hungry for a win. Excited to see how we respond in the next few weeks and always looking to go faster!"
 
"We had two great races today," exclaimed senior V4+ rower Gennaro Zappariello. "We're definitely excited to go up to New Jersey next weekend to get some Lightweight competition. Solid day overall."
 
UP NEXT:  Florida Tech's Lightweight 4 will compete next Saturday, April 2 at Overpeck Park in Teaneck, N.J. against California, Gordon, Harvard, Iona, Mercyhurst and Penn.
