MELBOURNE, Fla. – The No. 13 Florida Tech men's lacrosse team travels to Tampa this Thursday to compete in the 2022 Sunshine State Conference Semifinal against the top-seeded, No. 1 nationally ranked Spartans. Start time for Thursday's game is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex.Â
Â
This will be the third meeting this season between the Panthers (10-5, 5-2 SSC) and Spartans (16-0, 7-0 SSC) this season. Tampa won both matchups, but Florida Tech is the only team this season to come within one goal of knocking off the undefeated Spartans.
Â
The Spartans escaped with an 11-10 in double overtime non-conference win on March 12 in Tampa before defeating the Panthers by a score of 11-8 in Melbourne on April 6.
Â
Florida Tech is 2-3 all-time in SSC tournament action and made the championship game twice, falling both times to Tampa by a score of 11-8 in 2015 and 12-8 in 2017.Â
Â
Rollins was awarded the No. 2 seed in this year's tournament and will host No. 3 Florida Southern in the other semifinal game on Thursday in Winter Park. The Tars received the No. 2 seed following tiebreakers with Florida Southern and Florida Tech after the three teams finished the season knotted at 5-2 in the league standings.
Â
Following Thursday's games, the winners will advance to the SSC tournament final set for May 1 at the highest remaining seed.
Â
All three SSC tournament games this week can be watched live on the SSC Digital Network.Â
