Panthers, Spartans Set to Square off in Thursday's SSC Semifinal

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The No. 13 Florida Tech men's lacrosse team travels to Tampa this Thursday to compete in the 2022 Sunshine State Conference Semifinal against the top-seeded, No. 1 nationally ranked Spartans. Start time for Thursday's game is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex.

This will be the third meeting this season between the Panthers (10-5, 5-2 SSC) and Spartans (16-0, 7-0 SSC) this season. Tampa won both matchups, but Florida Tech is the only team this season to come within one goal of knocking off the undefeated Spartans.

The Spartans escaped with an 11-10 in double overtime non-conference win on March 12 in Tampa before defeating the Panthers by a score of 11-8 in Melbourne on April 6.

Florida Tech is 2-3 all-time in SSC tournament action and made the championship game twice, falling both times to Tampa by a score of 11-8 in 2015 and 12-8 in 2017.

Rollins was awarded the No. 2 seed in this year's tournament and will host No. 3 Florida Southern in the other semifinal game on Thursday in Winter Park. The Tars received the No. 2 seed following tiebreakers with Florida Southern and Florida Tech after the three teams finished the season knotted at 5-2 in the league standings.

Following Thursday's games, the winners will advance to the SSC tournament final set for May 1 at the highest remaining seed.

All three SSC tournament games this week can be watched live on the SSC Digital Network.
