SPARKS, Md. – Florida Tech women's lacrosse players Kailee O'Brien and
Kayla Minton were named Preseason All-Americans by USA Lacrosse Magazine.
O'Brien was selected to the third team for the 2023 Preseason All-American list after having finished last season being named to the IWLCA All-South Region Second Team, a Lacrosse Magazine All-American Honorable Mention and All-SSC Honorable Mention.
A graduate student from Lewis Center, Ohio, O'Brien led the Panthers defense last season with 43 ground balls and 27 caused turnovers to go along with nine goals, five assists and 13 draw controls. O'Brien inked her name in the program record book last season as she set a new school record with 10 ground balls against Saint Leo on April 9
th while her 3.07 ground balls per game currently ranks second in program history.
Returning for her junior season, Minton earns her first All-American mention. The attack/midfielder from Severna park, Maryland finished last season earning All-SSC honors. She led Tech with 53 points, on a team-best 41 goals and 12 assists, while collecting 17 ground balls, six caused turnovers and one draw control. She is just the seventh Panther to exceed 40 goals in a season. She also recorded eight hat tricks over 14 games, three game-winning goals, and averaged 2.93 goals per game, the sixth most in the SSC last season. Minton also tallied a school record five woman-down goals last season including two in the Panthers' season-opening win over Flagler on February 17, 2022.
The Panthers will open the 2023 season at Rick Stottler Field on Saturday, February 4
th at 7:30 pm vs Flagler College.
