Tech Sweeps Doubleheader Against Lynn

MELBOURNE, Fla. - Florida Tech bounced back from losing the opening game of the three-game series with Lynn by sweeping a Saturday afternoon doubleheader at Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field. 

INSIDE THE MATCHUP: 
Game 1 Final: Florida Tech 5, Lynn 2 
Game 2 Final: Florida Tech 9, Lynn 5

Location: Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field | Melbourne, Fla. 

STATS OF GAME 1: 

  • The Panthers opened the scoring with a RBI single to right field by Josh Ford that scored Brett Parrish. 
  • A third-inning solo home run to left field by Gavin McGowan, his first of the year, gave Tech a 2-0 lead. 
  • Parrish knocked a RBI double to right field later in the third inning that scored Austin Sewell. 
  • RHP Sean Means got out of bases-loaded jam in the fourth inning with a strikeout to keep his team up three runs.  
  • Lynn got on the board in the fifth inning with a RBI single to center field by Leo Paulino. 
  • Austin Sewell reached on a infield error in the fifth inning that scored Gabe Garrett to give the Panthers a 4-1 lead. 
  • In the seventh inning, Sewell drove in Jason Blackstone with a RBI single to center field.  
  • In the eighth inning, Lynn scored its second and final run of the game with a RBI sacrifice fly to right field off the bat of John Rodriguez. 
  • Tech had eight hits and were led by Parrish and Josh Ford, who each had two. 
  • Means worked four innings while giving up one unearned run on four hits. The senior struck out three and walked four.  
  • RHP Danny Vassallo took the win in relief, going five innings while giving up one unearned run on two hits. He had six strikeouts and walked one batter. 
  • RHP Marcus Eusebio took the loss for Lynn, working six innings while giving up four runs, three of which were earned. 

STATS OF GAME 2: 

  • Unlike game one, Lynn opened the scoring with a RBI groundout to shortstop by Bryson Murray in the first inning.  
  • A solo home run down the left field line from David Judge for the Fighting Knights gave them a 2-0 advantage in the second inning.  
  • The Panthers got on the board in the second inning when Alec Eldridge scored from third base after Lynn's catcher tried to pick off a runner on first base. 
  • Tech tied the game in the third inning when Sewell scored on a wild pitch.  
  • Later in the third inning, RBI singles by Roman Samson and Eldridge plus a bases-loaded walk by Sam Schner gave the Panthers a 5-2 lead. 
  • Lynn responded in the fourth inning scoring a run on a RBI single from Deric Lamontagn.  
  • Samson delivered with another RBI single, this one to center field that scored Garrett to give the Panthers a 6-3 lead. 
  • A bases-loaded walk and a infield error gifted the Fighting Knights two runs in the fifth inning. 
  • Tech added its seventh run in the fifth inning with a RBI sacrifice fly to right field by Blackstone that scored Schner. 
  • Schner had a RBI single in the sixth and eighth innings for the Panthers to give them a 9-5 lead. 
  • Tech had 15 hits with Schner and Sewell leading the way with three hits each. 
  • RHP Dyland Cleveland started for the Panthers and went four innings and gave up five earned runs on four hits. The freshman struck out two and walked five.  
  • LHP Aiden Pryzgoda was credited the win for Tech, throwing two hitless innings while recording one strikeout and one walk. 
  • RHP Zach Rodgers pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up one hit with one strikeout and one walk.  
  • RHP Ridge Skarbek picked up the save for the Panthers with two and one-thirds innings pitched. He didn't allow a single base-runner and struck out four batters. 
  •  RHP Nathan Shane took the loss for Lynn by allowing five runs on six hits in two and two-thirds innings pitched.  

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • The Panthers move to 50-49 all-time against Lynn.
  • In game one, Parrish tallied his 100th career RBI. 

UP NEXT: Florida Tech returns to action on Tuesday, Feb, 28 with a road trip to Florida Southern. The game will count as nonconference with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.
