CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Florida Tech men's and women's swimming team competed in the 800-yard freestyle relay for the first events of the Fall Frenzy hosted by Queens in Charlotte, N.C.

Women's 800 Free Relay:
The Panthers' relay team on the women's side consisted of
Abby Briggs,
Kate Helminiak,
Maja Malarz, and
Miranda Olhasso, who posted a combined time of 7:36.42, which was 11th overall in the field. (Briggs: 1.54.38, Helminiak: 1:51.88, Malarz: 1:55.67, Olhasso: 1:54.49).

All four Panthers in the relay posted season-best times in the 200 free.

The men's relay team consisted of
Efe Ongoren,
Adam Szczerba,
Akos Hajagos, and
Sebastian Washington, who posted a combined time of 6:37.83, which was good for seventh overall in the field. (Ongoren: 1:38.22, Szczerba: 1:39.93, Hajagos: 1:39.22, Washington: 1:40.46).

Ongoren's 200 free time of 1:38.22 broke former Panther
Luke Altmann's record set at the Panther Invite last season (1:38.23). Szczerba and Washington both posted season best times in the 200 free as well.

COACHES CORNER:
"It was a good night for us," said head coach Tony Marleneanu. "I think we were a bit nervous and made a few mistakes, but still good swims on both relays.
Efe Ongoren did manage to set a new school record and lowered his NCAA cut time as well, and he will have another chance this weekend to lower that even more."

UP NEXT: Florida Tech will continue the event with day two of the Fall Frenzy tomorrow, Nov. 22. The Panthers will be competing in the 500 free, the 200 IM, and the 50 free preliminary rounds. The first event is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte, N.C.
