TAMPA, Fla. – The Florida Tech men's track team competed outdoors for the first time this season at the UT Spartans Open on Friday, March 1st.
The Panthers started off the meet by racing in the Men's 100 Meters.
Levent Kahveci was Tech's top finisher with a time of 12.16s. Jonathan Fliz (12.97),
Morgan Lee (13.76) and Santiago Florez-Tascon Gamero (14.62) finished 21
st through 23
rd, respectively.
The 200m saw a 23
rd place finish for
Alvaro Cameo (24.43), while Fliz (27.09) took 28
th.
As Tech's lone representative in the 400m, Cameo nabbed 12
th place with a time of 53.86.
Ryan Zerneke (2:13.37) and
Yash Malik (2:20.66) took 28
th and 29
th, respectively in the 800m. Malik earned 43
rd as the lone Panther in the 1500m with a 4:39.60.
The 5000m would see the Panthers compete in a field that featured three Division I Programs with multiple runners.
Brennan Lackey recorded the Panther's fastest time for a 47th place finish in the race with a 16:21.82 followed closely by
Jaiden Martingano in 49th who crossed the line in 16:26.73.
Alex Larrivee was the third Panther across the line with his time of 16:42.11 good for 53
rd place.
Jack Schule (17:15.29) was next in 61
st, followed by Luke Aagaard (17:17.53) in 62
nd, Bryce Haner (17:20.94) in 64
th,
Hunter McDougall (18:18.17) in 70
th and
Joshua Fernandez-Alvarado (18:45.40) in 72
nd.
The Crimson and Gray took second place in both the 4X100 and 4X200 relays. The group of Kahveci,
Loleyi Oluwatomisin,
Chinedum Ajabor and
Bradley Erskine Jr. combined for a time of 45.76s in the 4X100. In the 4X200, the quartet of Oluwatomisin, Erskine Jr., Kahveci and Cameo put together a time of 1:38.71 that was just 0.50s from the top spot.
