Panthers Fall on the Road Against Top-10 Rollins

Box Score WINTER PARK, Fla. – Florida Tech men's lacrosse travel to Winter Park, Fla. Saturday night to take on a top-10 opponent in the Rollins Tars. The Tars jumped out to a quick lead in the first quarter and never let up, handing the Panthers their first SSC loss of the season.

FIRST QUARTER: 
  • The Rollins Tars jumped out in front early on to take a 1-0 lead just 45 seconds into the game.
  • Griffin Martin found Zach Rozgonyi on the crease to tie it up, 1-1.
  • Rollins added another before Collin Stewart scored his first of the game off a feed from Ben Foster.
  • Tars blasted three consecutive goals to go up 4-2 with 2:41 to go in the opening frame.
  • Stewart responded, finding the back of the net on an unassisted effort.
  • Rollins would tack on one more to take a 6-3 lead into the second quarter.
SECOND QUARTER: 
  • Jakob Terpak opened up the second frame with an unassisted goal to cut the deficit to two.
  • Tars responded with a 4-1 run to take a 10-5 advantage with 5:58 remaining. Stewart accounted for the Panthers' tally during the run as he fired a missile from the left side.
THIRD QUARTER: 
  • Rollins extended their lead 13-5, scoring three straight to open the third period.
  • Panthers wasted no time, scoring twice over the next minute and a half. Rozgonyi paired up with Stewart for his second goal of the day before Terpak found Andrew Walenty to cut the deficit, 13-7.
  • With 3:29 on the clock, Rollins would get the final goal of the period and take a seven-goal advantage into the last frame.
FOURTH QUARTER: 
  • Rollins would once again score three consecutive goals to build their lead, 17-7 with 6:59 remaining.
  • Panthers answered with three goals by three different players to cut the deficit back to single digits. Mason Costa tallied his first career goal off an assist from Danny Richmond. 13 seconds later, Jonah Borynec scored on a man-up unassisted effort. Walenty capped off the run on a feed from Brooks Van Esselstyn.
  • Rollins tallied the final goal with 55 seconds on the clock and would then run out the remaining time to hand Florida Tech its first SSC loss of the season.
NOTABLE PANTHERS:  INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • Rollins ended with more shots (56-26), shots on goal (34-13), and ground balls (44-23).
  • Tars won 19-31 faceoffs compared to 12-31 for Tech.
  • The Panthers recorded more turnovers then the Tars, 22-15.
  • Tech was 20-23 on clear attempts while Rollins was 23-27.
  • The Panthers were 1-3 on man-up while holding the Tars 0-3 on extra-man opportunities.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Florida Tech stands at 6-9 all-time against Rollins.
  • The Tars have won the past six match ups with the Panthers' last win over Rollins being a 15-9 triumph on March 31, 2021.
  • With his five points, Collin Stewart moves up to sixth all-time on the programs career points list with 121.
  • Mason Costa recorded his first career goal as a Panther.
  • Andrew Walenty tallied his first multi-goal game of the season.
  • JP Panchookian entered the programs career top-10 list for caused turnovers.
