First Quarter Woes Ends Panthers’ Season In SSC Quarterfinal

| Box Score 2 WINTER PARK, Fla. – Florida Tech men's lacrosse returned to postseason play for the second consecutive season on Saturday afternoon in the Sunshine State Conference Quarterfinal. The Panthers fought for all 60 minutes, but an early deficit ultimately proved too much as the Tars advanced, 13-8.

FIRST QUARTER: 
  • The Tars took the lead almost immediately as Thomas Garvin won the opening faceoff and found Seth Isenhour, who gave Rollins the lead after seven seconds.
  • A little over two minutes later, Jack Johnstone doubled Rollins' lead.
  • Chad Bulera added to the Tars' early outburst 47 seconds later at 11:54
  • Isenhour added his second of the quarter at 6:29.
 
SECOND QUARTER: 
  • Aidan Addison got Florida Tech on the board at 10:56 with a great finish through traffic.
  • It took the Tars only 1:09 to respond, doing so on Bulera's second of the afternoon through a diving, solo effort.
  • Gavin Stecher lifted Panther spirits at 7:25, beating the shot clock on a feed from Thomas Strong after Florida Tech had won a long, physical battle in the corner.
  • Rollins pushed their lead back to four through Logan Myers at 5:54.
  • The Crimson and Gray continued to show life at 3:12 with Stecher getting his second on a dodge into the middle.
  • Isenhour completed his first half hat trick at 2:30 from point-blank range after being set up by Max Armitage.
 
THIRD QUARTER: 
  • Just over four minutes into the second half, Logan McHugh
  • Strong got one back for Tech at 7:18, finishing off a counterattack that was started when Kevin Wolfe caused a turnover.
  • Isenhour's fourth of the game came at 5:59 with a powerful shot from the high slot.
  • Florida Tech needed only 91 seconds to respond, as Jakob Terpak took the ball from inside his own half and did the rest himself.
  • Aaron Williams would restore Rollins' lead to five at the 2:39 mark with a low shot through the defense.
  • Brooks Van Esselstyn gave the Panthers hope going into the final quarter by firing home from the middle after a Tars turnover.
 
FOURTH QUARTER: 
  • Van Esselstyn added further hope to a Crimson and Gray comeback at 11:31 with a laser from distance.
  • This time, Rollins would respond in 53 seconds, as Sam Mattson made it 11-7.
  • Mattson sealed the win at 2:50 with a man-up goal as Florida Tech were scrambling to get the ball back.
  • Thomas Strong added his second of the day 21 seconds later after picking up a pass at midfield.
  • However, Williams concluded the scoring with his second of the day at 1:19 out of a timeout with a man down.
NOTABLE PANTHERS:  INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • The Panthers caused more turnovers (7-4), had fewer turnovers (16-18) and won the groundball battle (27-22).
  • The Tars outshot the Panthers (39-34 and 20-18 on goal) and won the faceoff battle (16-9).
  • Florida Tech was 23-of-28 on clears, while Rollins went 19-of-22.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • The Panthers are now 6-13 against Rollins and 1-8 against the Tars in Winter Park. Rollins have won nine straight meetings in the series.
  • This marked the third time the schools have met in the SSC Tournament with Florida Tech winning the 2015 Semifinal in Tampa and Rollins victorious in the 2024 Semifinal in Winter Park.
  • Tech is now 3-6 all-time in the SSC Tournament, including 0-5 in true road games.
