MELBOURNE, Fla. – Lachlan McCure represents the Florida Tech men's cross country and track team, earning a spot on the College Sports Communications (CSC) Academic All-District team when the organization announced its selections on Tuesday afternoon.
The 2023 Academic All-District® Men's Cross Country and Track Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, commend the nation's top scholar-athletes for their exceptional performances on the field and in the classroom, showcasing their remarkable ability to balance academics and athletics.
Academic All-District® honorees are considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
McCure, a sophomore transfer from Australia majoring in finance, maintained a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA while significantly impacting both cross country and track.
In the fall, he competed in five cross country races, highlighted by a 27:20.80 finish at the SSC Championships, where he placed 51st. He also earned a top-15 finish at the Fire Invitational, helping lead the Panthers to their first team victory since 2017.
During the track season, McCure raced in eight meets across indoor and outdoor events. He ranked 45th in the South Region for his 4:21.69 mile at the Celebration Pointe Classic. He set a new program record in the 2K steeplechase in the spring with 6:23.42, finishing 11th. He also placed in the top 10 at the Tampa Invitational, clocking an 8:45.16 in the 3,000-meter.
