GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Panther men's indoor track team began its 2026 campaign at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational for the second consecutive season. The team saw 10 top-10 finishes and 11 personal bests from non-freshmen.
Jason Hargesheimer proved last year wasn't a fluke, spotting a time of 2:37.81 in the 1,000-meter run, taking seventh place to begin the day. The time was a career best for the sophomore. Two other sophomores cracked the top-15 with personal record times as
Tyler Herrera placed 11
th and
Thomas Carpenter grabbed 13
th.
The Panthers covered the top of the 300-meter dash's leaderboard with five placing in the top-10. The event was highlighted by
Filippo Bessi's career mark of 36:20 for 3
rd and freshman
Mikey Roberts' fourth place finish with a 36.32. Those times are second and third all-time for a Panther in the event.
In the mile run,
Brycen Haner just made the top-10 at 10
th, running a personal best 4:38.19.
Jake Greene followed closely behind in 11
th, crossing the finish line with a 4:38.58.
Diego Estebanes surpassed his best time in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking an 8:90 while first-year
Jaden Garris was timed at 8.83. Both times were the program's all-time record.
The dynamic duo of Hargesheimer and Bessi reappeared in the 800-meter run, placing sixth and eighth, respectively, with sub-two-minute times.
Carpenter broke a career-best 3,000-meter time with an 8:53.43 for sixth. It was the Lincoln, England, natives' second personal record of the invitational.
The final event saw the Panthers' 4x400-meter relay take fourth despite missing two runners from what will be their A-team.
