Panthers Dismantle Fighting Knights in Huge Road Win

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Tech men's lacrosse team extends their winning streak to five consecutive games with their dominant 20-6 win over Lynn on Saturday, Mar. 28.

GAME NOTES
FIRST QUARTER
  • The Fighting Knights came out and planted three consecutive shots on the Florida Tech goal. Two missed wide while Jax Francisco picked up his first save of the day on the last one.
  • Lynn would cause a turnover and fire three more shots on the Tech goal with the third reaching the back of the net.
  • Joe Coveleski got Tech on the board with an unassisted goal at the 6:14 mark.
  • After a Lynn turnover, Steve Ulrichs picked up the ground ball and pushed the ball up the field with the numbers advantage. Ulrichs would score to put the Panthers ahead 2-1.
  • Shale Saeger would earn the faceoff win which led to a Thomas Strong goal with 16 left in the first.
SECOND QUARTER
  • The Fighting Knights forced a failed clear for Tech which led to a Lynn goal with 12:30 on the clock.
  • The Panthers would earn the point back seconds later with Thomas Strong's second goal of the game.
  • Jax Francisco stopped the Fighting Knights on multiple occasions with three saves at the 10:28, 8:37 and 7:57 marks.
  • After Lynn scored, Jonah Borynec and Brooks van Esselstyn hit back-to-back goals close to the six-minute mark to extend the Tech lead to 6-3.
  • Coveleski and Parker Kane both hit goals to give the Panthers an 8-4 lead going into halftime. Aisan Addison and Brooks van Esselstyn on the assists.
THIRD QUARTER
  • Tech's third quarter was their most dominant period of the season yet as they outscored the Fighting Knights 8-0, starting with a goal by van Esselstyn that was assisted by Dawson Long.
  • The Panthers unselfish play continued as Long scored off an assist by Ryan Chancer as Tech staked themselves to a 10-4 lead.
  • The lead grew with goals from Rob Gadomski, van Esselstyn and Max Henry. Jack Cornwell picked up his first assist.
  • Kevin Wolfe caused a Lynn turnover which led to Gadomski's second goal of the afternoon.
  • Van Esselstyn earned his hat trick with a second assist by Jack Cornwell with eight minutes left in the quarter.
  • Tech continued their offensive onslaught with goals by Henry and Coveleski to extend the Tech lead to 14-4.
  • The Panthers added two more points with goals from Parker Kane and Steve Ulrichs to close out the dominant quarter.
  • The defense for Tech helped fuel the offense as Jax Francisco picked up four saves. Ulrichs and Wolfe combined for three caused turnovers in the period.
FOURTH QUARTER
  • Parker Kane tallied two goals in the quarter, both assisted by Joe Coveleski.
  • Noah Guarrera and Robert McNamara both found the back of the net for their first goals of the game.
  • Francisco would pick up four more saves.
  • Tech picked up seven ground balls in the final quarter.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
  • Parker Kane would lead the Panthers in scoring with four goals. Brooks van Esselstyn and Joe Coveleski joined him with hat tricks in the game.
  • Ulrichs and Wolfe recked havoc on the defensive end with four caused turnovers each. They combined for seven ground balls.
  • Jax Francisco was terrific yet again with 15 saves as he only allowed six goals.
  • 11 different Panthers scored.
  • This marks the fifth time in program history that Florida Tech has scored at least 16 goals against Lynn and the second time they've done so in Boca Raton.
  • This is the Panthers' highest scoring total against Lynn, breaking the previous of 19, set in the very first matchup between these teams on April 5, 2014. 
  • Tech has conceded eight goals or less in five consecutive games.
  • This is the Panthers' ninth win over Lynn, the most against any opponent in program history. 
  • Seventh time in program history that the Crimson and Gray have scored 20 or more goals in a single game and the first time they've done so on the road. 
  • The 30 total points are the seventh most in a game in program history and the most in a road game. 
COACHES CORNER
"We did a really good job today playing to our strengths," said Head Coach Brad MacArthur. "We're still fighting to find the consistency we need, reducing turnovers early and giving ourselves better starts." 
 
"Our defense is our anchor, and the young men are buying into what we need, keeping even emotionally when things don't go our way."

The Panthers will head to Orlando, Florida for a huge SSC matchup between the Panthers and No. 12 Rollins Tars on Wednesday, Apr. 1. First faceoff scheduled for 4:00 p.m. EST.
