Grenier, Modica Score IWLCA All-American Honors

Grenier is second-ever women's lacrosse player to rake in All-American recognition, joining Modica who becomes first FIT lacrosse player to be named a First Team All-American

MELBOURNE, Fla. (Women's Lacrosse) – On Thursday, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) released its 2017 Division II All-American Teams and Florida Tech's Sara Grenier and Allie Modica are included on the list of honorees.

Grenier becomes just the second women's lacrosse player from Florida Tech to be recognized on the All-American Team, joining Modica who was named a Second Team All-American following the 2016 season.

Grenier makes her debut as an IWLCA Second Team All-American after garnering First Team All-South Region honors a week ago. The Oakland, Maine product started all 18 games this season and led Florida Tech with 58 goals to go along with 10 assists and 17 ground balls. The junior recorded 16 multi-goal games this year, including in both of FIT's NCAA Tournament appearances against East Stroudsburg and Florida Southern. Grenier is a three-time First Team All-Sunshine State Conference selection.

"Sara had a blowout year," said head coach Corinne Desrosiers. "She's always been a top scorer for us, but her depth and growth finally showed through this year and she was consistent throughout our schedule. She was there when we really needed her. We had some big wins and, each time, Sara was a catalyst in turning the momentum back our way, offensively. She added some quicker dodging to her repertoire this year and it shows in this honor. We are very proud of all Sara has accomplished in her three years with us so far, and look forward to what she can do in her final collegiate season in 2018."

A native of nearby Vero Beach, Florida, Modica makes her second appearance on the IWLCA All-American Teams as a First Team selection in 2017, becoming the first player in Florida Tech lacrosse history to be named a First Team All-American.

Modica notched a team-best 79 points this season on 57 goals and a team-high 22 assists. The senior also led FIT with 64 draw controls, while her 43 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers were third and fourth most on the team. The 2017 Florida Tech Female Athlete of the Year, Modica concludes her three-year Florida Tech career with 191 total points on 146 goals and 45 assists, to go along with 175 draw controls, 140 ground balls and 64 caused turnovers. She raked in three IWLCA All-South Region honors and was a three-time All-SSC First Team selection.

"What more can you say about Mo," Desrosiers stated. "She was a big transfer for us and really helped us stake a flag in the ground of Division II women's lacrosse in just three short years. She is absolutely a first-teamer in my book and I am so happy that we can send her off into the world knowing that she not only enjoyed every second of her career with us, but that her hard work paid off in a way that nobody else at Florida Tech can say it has yet – with a First Team All American selection. It's really hard to get to that level and Allie did it with humility, passion, and a work ethic that you just can't coach into kids. We will miss her dearly, but are so appreciative of what she's helped build and left behind for others to follow."
