Rocha Furtado, 200 Free Relay Take Home All-American Honors

Panthers' 200 freestyle relay takes fifth in finals, earns First Team All-American honors




GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Florida Tech men's swimming team collected more hardware on day two of the 2018 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

Starting off the day, the defending national champion 200 freestyle relay posted a time of 1:20.62 in the morning preliminary heat and earned a chance to repeat in the evening's final.

In the final, the relay of Victor Rocha Furtado, Emanuele Rossi, Thomas Steenberg and Filip Dujmic raced to a time of 1:20.42 to grab fifth overall and First Team All-American honors. Oklahoma Baptist won the national championship with a time of 1:18.11, .57 seconds ahead of second place Queens.

Rocha Furtado then garnered a spot in the 100 butterfly B-Final after posting a 48.23 during the morning session, good for 15th overall in the prelims. The junior picked up his time in the night session, touching the wall at 47.91 to take 10th overall and receive Honorable Mention All-American laurels.

The Panthers are back in action on Saturday, the final day of the championships, and will take their mark in both the men's 100 freestyle and the 400 freestyle relay. Fans can access live coverage of the meet at FloridaTechSports.com.
