Box Score Melbourne, Fla. – On Friday night, the Panthers opened their season against the Nighthawks. Florida Tech (0-1) were unable to get a victory in the first game of a three game series.
 
Leading the way offensively for Florida Tech, preseason NCBWA All-South Region Second Team member, Raul Quintero had a good day at the plate as he recorded two hits in four at bats. Dylan Owens recorded his first start has a Panther and went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Jakob Newton recorded an RBI as well going 1-for-4 on the plate for the Panthers.
 
Florida Tech received five quality innings from Andrew Marzheuser against North Georgia. He allowed one run on four hits and five strikeouts on his first start of the season.
 
The game started with Marzheuser having a three up three down inning for the Panthers. In the bottom of the second, Alec Eldridge recorded his first single as a Panther to lead off the inning. Two batters later, Newton hits a triple down the right field line scoring Eldridge and giving the Panthers an early one nothing lead.
 
In the fifth inning, the Nighthawks were able to capitalize on a two out single to right field from Chase Sudduth to tie the game at one a piece.  The Panthers came right back an answer the run as Owens delivered a one out single to score Quintero in the bottom of the fifth.
 
However, North Georgia was able to have qualities at bats towards the end of the game in which they scored three more runs defeating Florida Tech (4-2).
 
Tomorrow, the Panthers will return to Andy Seminick- Les Hall Field to square up against UNG for Game 2 of the series. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. ET.
