Marcello Cortale Named All-SSC First Team and Freshman of the Year, Marshall Burke Selected to Defensive Team

ORLANDO, FLA. – The Sunshine State Conference has revealed the postseason awards for the 2026 season. Florida Tech's Marcello Cortale has been named the SSC Freshman of the Year and All-SSC First Team. Marshall Burke was selected as the best defensive second baseman in the conference, earning All-SSC Defensive Team honors.

Marcello Cortale becomes the third Florida Tech Panther to collect Freshman of the Year accolades and the 36th player to earn All-SSC First Team honors. The outfielder from The Villages, Florida, posted a .328 batting average, a .611 slugging percentage, and a .391 on-base percentage. He recorded 59 hits, 37 runs, 11 doubles, 12 home runs, two triples, and 41 RBI.

Marshall Burke is the sixth Panther, and the first second baseman to earn a spot on the All-SSC Defensive team. He played in 40 games, starting 39 in his first full season since 2024. Marshall was second in the SSC in fielding percentage (minus first baseman) and in 177 chances, he was charged with just one error. He recorded 102 assists, 74 putouts and helped turn 31 double plays.
