Cross Country / Track Senior Spotlight

During the month of April, Florida Tech will recognize it's senior student-athletes for their contributions to their teams and Panther Athletics.

2020 CROSS COUNTRY/TRACK SENIOR SPOTLIGHT

Pauline Cosson | Marolles en Hurepoix, France⁣

Pauline has been a five-year member of Florida Tech's distance track and cross country team. In Cosson's freshman season, she got off to a great start as a Panther. She ran in five meets for Florida Tech, ran a season best 5K in 20:21 at the Mountain Dew Gator Cross Country Invitational and a season best 6K in 23:19 at the SSC Championship. Cosson was one of seven runners selected to represent Florida Tech at the NCAA South Region Championship where she ran 26:55 in the 6K race. In 2017, Pauline continued to perform for the Panthers. She competed in five races and ran her best 5K time of the year (21:40.6) at the FSU Invitational. She represented Florida Tech in the NCAA South Region Championship where she finished the 6K in 26:27.9. In the 2018 season, she clocked in three of her personal best times in the mile race (5:52.92), 5000m (20:38.56), and 5K (20:17.5). In 2019, Pauline ran in the NCAA South Region Championships where she was the first Panther to cross the finish line with a time of 25:35.48 in the 6K. In 2020, Pauline showed her hard work running and also in the classroom. She ran a personal best 600m with a time of 1:55.22 and also was named to the SSC Fall honor roll. Pauline will graduate from Florida Tech with a degree in Business Administration/Sports Management. She will continue her education back home as she will start her Master's Degree in Sports Industry Management. ⁣

Genevieve Lucas | Manassas, VA.

Genevieve has been a four-year member of Florida Tech's distance track and cross country team. Her freshman year was fantastic as she ran in 5 meets. She ran a season best 5K in 20:29 at the Mountain Dew Gator Cross Country Invitational, season best 6k in 22:40 at the SSC Championship, as well as represented FIT at the NCAA South Region Championship in the 6k. Genevieve was able to improve her 5k time during her sophomore year when she ran a 5k in 19:20 at the Royals XC Challenge. She once again represented FIT at the NCAA South Region Championship. Her junior year she led the Panthers at the Mountain Dew Invitational (27th Overall), the Disney Classic (34th Overall), the Florida Tech Invitational (15th Overall), the USF Invitational (10th Overall), and the SSC Championship (22nd Overall). Genevieve also led the panthers in her junior campaign at the NCAA South Region Championship with a time of 23:52 6k earning her a 53rd place finish. Genevieve's senior year she finished with two 20:53 times at the Panther Invitational and Mountain Dew Invitational for her season's best. She also excelled off the field and was named to the Fall Honor Roll in 2018 and 2019. Genevieve will graduate from Florida Tech with a degree in Biomedical Science and plans to head to nursing school.

Theresa Wainwright | Rockford, IL

Theresa was a four-year member of Florida Tech's long distance track and cross country team. In 2018, Theresa went out and set two of her personal best times. At the 2018 Mountain Dew Gator Cross Country Invitational, she ran a 24:37.1 for the 5K. two months later, at the Sunshine State Conference Championship, Theresa ran a career best for the 6K with a time of 36:37.4. In 2019, Theresa was able to continue to perform for the Panthers and also clock in more personal times. At the Embry-Riddle First Chance Meet, she ran a time of 3:42.45 for the 800m. Shortly after Theresa ran a career best for the 1500m with a time of 7:16.59 at the Embry-Riddle Spike's Classic. Before Theresa's college career, she attended Elizabeth Seton High School in Maryland where she participated in cross country, softball, and basketball. Theresa will graduate from Florida Tech with a degree in Ocean Engineering. She is currently a Student Research Assistant at the Center for Biofouling and Corrosion.

Joseph Berg | Littleton, Colo.

When it comes to long distance running, this is easy work for Berg. When the Colorado native arrived at Florida Tech, it was clear he was going to be a huge factor to the long distance track team and also the cross country team. Right away in 2017, Berg came out and set two of his personal best times. At the Embry-Riddle First Chance-Last Chance, Berg had a personal best for the 3000m with a time of 9:47.91. Shortly after, he clocked in a time of 17:00.8 for the 5K which landed him a 5th place finish. From there on, Berg continued to dominate in 2018 setting three more personal best times. He set his college best at 6:40.37 in the 2000s and also a time of 10:19.68 for the 3000s. Adding to that, at the NCAA DII South Region XC Championship, Berg ran a personal best 33:37.8 for the 10K. The hard work Berg put in landed him even more personal best in the 2019 and 2020 seasons with times of 4:16.27 in the 1500m and 26:13.1 in the 8K. Not only did Berg put hard work into his running, but He also excelled in the classroom. Berg will graduate from Florida Tech with an Aerospace Engineering degree here he earned an All-Academic distinctions honor.

Malte Stockhausen | Bocholt, Germany⁣
 

Malte has been a four year member of the cross country and track team. During his career, he has become one of our top male runners. Malte shows strong discipline and love for the sport. He currently holds multiple school records in the 5K (14:42) and Steeplechase (9:19). His effort is evident every day in practice, and not only does he work hard for himself, but he also works hard for his teammates by encouraging everyone to aim for their best. During the fall, Malte earned All-SSC First Team honors. Stockhausen earned the award after an incredible performance at the SSC Championships. The Senior finished 5th on the race with a total time of 25:54.3. Malte also was named SSC Runner of the Week after taking first place at the Panther Invitational. Stockhausen is the first Panther to win Runner of the Week accolades since September 29, 2014. Malte also works hard in the classroom earning multiple academic awards by the SSC and USTFCCCA. He is currently finishing his bachelor's degree in Marine Biology and will travel back home to pursue a master's degree.⁣
