Men's Soccer Victorious in First Spring Friendly

Florida Tech's strong start guides them to a 2-1 win over PBA

MELBOURNE – After a 458-day break, Florida Tech men's soccer donned their uniforms and took to the pitch for a match. They came out strong in their first appearance in over a year as they defeated Palm Beach Atlantic, 2-1.

Guillermo Segovia picked up where he left off as he found the back of the net twice. While newcomer Parker Christensen was tasked with keeper duties and put together an impressive performance as he only conceded one goal off a penalty kick.

The Panthers started out fast as they controlled the pace almost immediately and this pressure led to a mistake by Palm Beach Atlantic's backline that resulted in a penalty kick opportunity about 13 minutes into the match. Segovia made the most of the 15-yard shot as he powered on past the keeper and give the team an early 1-0 lead.

Segovia then doubled up not only his goal total but also Tech's lead about 12 minutes later as he drilled a shot past the keeper and made it 2-0. The rest of the first half kept with the established trajectory as the Crimson & Gray did not relent despite not putting up another goal.

The second half was a more even affair as both teams had their chances, however, the final 10 minutes was all PBA as they began turning the pressure up in a last-ditch effort to narrow the gap. They did just that with 8:03 left as a PK found its way into the back of the net. They kept pushing and this almost resulted in their second goal of the night if it wasn't for a timely save by Christensen. The final few minutes saw the same pressure but no other real threats on goal as Florida Tech held on for the 2-1 win.

The Panthers will be back on the pitch next Sunday, March 14, when they welcome Florida Southern to Rick Stottler Field for a 1 pm ET showdown.
