Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – The Florida Tech men's swimming program concluded their weekend on Saturday afternoon as they competed in Day One of the Shark Invitational at the NSU Aquatic Center.
The Panthers ultimately finished fourth out of eight teams with a total of 437 points.
Akos Hajagos was the third-highest finishing swimmer for the entire meet, earning 61 points, while
Luke Altmann finished in a tie for fourth with 59 points.
Hajagos' top performance of the day came in the 200 Fly, where his time of 1:50.71 earned him third place out of 36 competitors as well as 16 points for the team.
Jay Jay Fonnotto earned another 14 points for Tech in the event as he earned sixth place with a time of 1:53.82.
Michael Panariello rounded out a strong showing for the Panthers by earning 14
th place and six points with a 1:59.35 effort.
Altmann's best effort came in the 100 Free as he would also earn third place out of 79 swimmers and 16 points thanks to a time of 45.57, making his way to the podium place by .02s.
David Armstrong's 47.05 time would garner him 17
th place and four points.
Connor Orth posted Florida Tech's first top ten time of the day with his 58.32 effort in the 100 Breast earning him eighth place and the team 11 points.
Jacob Sykora contributed another five points thanks to his 1:00.14 time earning him 15
th place out of 40 swimmers.
Hajagos (1:52.85) and Fonnotto (1:53.10) earned fifth and sixth place respectively out of 30 competitors in the 200 Back, earning a combined 27 points for the team in the process.
Zachary Reese grabbed 11
th place and six points thanks to his 1:57.02 effort.
Orth earned his second top ten finish of the day in the 200 Breast, this time grabbing seventh place and 12 points through his time of 2:09.18.
Daniel Aizenberg earned five points for the Crimson and Gray by finishing 14
th out of 45 in the 100 Back with a time of 52.46. Reese would tally two more points in the event thanks to his 53.30 time.
Brayden Hohman was Tech's top finisher in the 500 Free, taking 13
th place and four points with a 4:48.47 effort. Freshman
Collin Meadows earned one point with a 17
th place finish thanks to his time of 4:55.09.
In relay action, the group of Fonnotto, Orth, Hajagos and Altmann earned 32 points in the 400 Medley with a fourth place finish in a field of 26 teams, thanks to a time of 3:21.07. The quartet of Aizenberg, Sykora,
Matteo Caruso and
Max Martino collected 12 points thanks to their 13th place finish of 3:34.71.
In the 200 Free, Tech had back to back finishes as the team of Altmann, Hajagos, Caruso and Martino would take eighth place and 24 points with a time of 1:24.01. Next to the line would be the squad of Fonnotto,
Josh McLean, Sykora and Armstrong, who took home ninth place and 22 points with a time of 1:25.68.
