Melbourne, Fla. – The Florida Tech men's swimming team continued competition in the eighth annual Panther Invite on Saturday at the Panther Aquatic Center with prelims in the morning and finals in the evening.
Through two days, the Panthers are in fourth place with a 475 point total. Indian River State lead the way with 839.5 points, followed by Florida Southern in second place with 631.5 points, while St. Thomas' 513.5 points good for third. Tech are ahead of Rollins (441.5 points) and Barry (93 points).
The morning prelims saw history made as
Luke Altmann set a new school record in the 200 Free with a time of 1:38.23. This breaks the top mark of 1:38.57 set by Emanuele Rossi at the 2016 Panther Invite, one day shy of exactly seven years since the record had been set.
In the event's A Final in the evening, Altmann's 1:40.06 time placed him eighth.
Daniel Aizenberg had one of his times of the season in the 100 Back A Final as his 48.80 finish was good for second place and just 0.29s from first. The same event would
Zachary Reese (49.56) would take sixth, while
Jay Jay Fonnotto would place ninth (50.29).
Fonnotto took home fifth in the 100 Fly A Final with a time of 58.38. Joining him was Aizenberg, who placed ninth with a 55.44 finish.
The 100 Breast A Final saw
Connor Orth (55.93) and
Matthew Heaphy (56.19) earn sixth and seventh, respectively.
Matthew Smith finished ninth through a time of 57.13.
Gaspard Thierry won the 400 IM C Final thanks to a time of 4:09.25.
Nathan Scott won the 100 Fly C Final with a 50.28, edging out the second place finisher by 0.24s.
The 200 Medley relay would see the team of Aizenberg, Heaphy, Fonnotto and Altmann earn fourth place in the A Final thanks to a time of 1:29.16.
The top Crimson and Gray finish in the 800 Free relay would be delivered by the group of
Akos Hajagos,
David Armstrong, Fonnotto and Altmann, who grabbed sixth thanks to their 6:47.15 finish.

The Panther Invite will conclude tomorrow, beginning with the prelims at 9:30 AM, followed by the finals scheduled for a 5:00 P.M. start.
