MELBOURNE, Fla.- The Sunshine State Conference announced the Men's Soccer All-Conference awards on Wednesday afternoon, and the Panthers were well represented, with six scholar-athletes among the list of honorees.
Forward
Fabio Amaral and defender Sjur Dreschler were selected to the First Team. The second team consists of forward
Ettore Casadei and goalkeeper
Iker Bastida, while midfielder
Hugo Catherine and defender
Nokkvi Nokkvason earned a spot on the third team.
Amaral earns his first All-SSC First Team nod, after receiving second-team honors in 2022. Appearing in 12 matches, the Salvador, Brazil native led the Panthers with eight goals and two assists for 18 points. He ranks fifth in the SSC in goals and points.
Dreschler earns his second straight All-SSC First Team nod after anchoring the defense, who allowed their opponents just 7.4 shots per game. The Panthers allowed just 1.20 goals per game, which ranks third in the SSC. Additionally, the Stavanger, Norway native, tallied two goals and two assists, including the go-ahead goal against Palm Beach Atlantic.
Casadei, a Cervia, Italy native, appeared in every game this season, providing an offensive spark. The forward led the Panthers alongside Amaral, finishing the regular season with 18 points on seven goals and four assists. The senior tallied game-winners against Barry, Tampa, and Rollins.
Bastida, a graduate student out of Azpeitia, Spain, posted four shutouts, 31 saves, and a .674 save percentage over 14 games. His 1.118 goals-against average ranks third in the SSC. He posted a career-high six saves to hand Barry, the SSC regular-season champions, their only loss in conference play.
Nokkvason, earning his first All-SSC nod, helped the Panthers post four clean sheets in conference play, playing a key role on the back line. He started 13 of his 14 appearances. The senior out of Gardabaer, Iceland, registered two assists for two points this season.
Catherine, a native of Caen, France, has started all but one game this season, proving to be an important piece for the Panther's lineup. The senior played a key role in holding the Panther's opponents to just 7.4 shots per game and moving the ball up the field, providing scoring opportunities for Tech. The midfielder tallied four assists on the season.
Florida Tech will take on the No. 3 seeded Rollins in the SSC Tournament semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 9 at Rick Stottler Field. Kickoff is set for 4:30. p.m.
