AUSTIN, Texas – Florida Tech senior goalkeeper
Ayana Aoyagi was recognized by College Sports Communicators (CSC) as a First Team Academic All-American for her performance both on the pitch and in the classroom, as announced by the organization on Wednesday.
Â
Aoyagi becomes just the second Panther to earn a spot on the Academic All-America team, and the first to earn First Team honors. She joins Casey Lademann who earned Third Team honors in 2011.
Â
A multiplatform journalism major, Aoyagi currently holds a perfect 4.0 grade point average. The Cairns, Australia native has also earned SSC Honor Roll and Florida Tech Athletic Director Honor Roll awards during her time with the Panthers.
Â
On the pitch, Aoyagi totaled over 2000 minutes in goal, recorded 68 saves with a 79.5 save percentage, and held 0.76 goals against average. The senior keeper totaled eight solo shutouts on the year, which is tied for fifth-most in a single season in Panther history.
