Women’s Soccer Earns Four Major SSC Honors; Nine Land on All-SSC

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Tech women's soccer team earned four major Sunshine State Conference (SSC) awards, Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, and Coach of the Year, along with a total of nine Panthers who landed on the All-SSC teams, as announced by the league on Thursday.

Junior midfielder Marta Llopis was named Offensive Player of the Year for her dominance all season long. The Barcelona, Spain native led the league in points (27), points per game (1.67), total goals (11), and game-winning goals (7). In conference play, Llopis scored seven goals in 10 games, with four game winners, and five assists. During the season, she also earned two SSC Player of the Week honors on Oct. 21 and Nov. 11. This is the second consecutive and third overall Offensive Player of the Year award in program history.

Graduate midfielder Daniela Tobon earned the Panthers' first Defensive Player of the Year honors in program history. Playing over 1400 minutes on the pitch, Tobon led a Panthers defense that recorded seven shutouts and held opponents to just 12 goals allowed and 0.75 goals allowed per game, both of which led the SSC. On the offensive side of the field, the Weston, Fla. native added nine points on two goals and five assists.

Junior goalkeeper Kaitlin Sinkler earned the Panthers second consecutive Goalkeeper of the Year award. Sinkler led the SSC in goals against average (0.645), allowing just 10 goals in 16 games played and nearly 1400 minutes on the pitch. Sinkler also earned SSC Player of the Week honors on Sept. 30. The Decatur, Ga. native joins former Panther Ayana Aoyagi ('23) as the only scholar-athletes to earn the award.

In her first season at the helm of the Panthers, head coach Katy Freels was named Coach of the Year after leading Tech to its first ever outright SSC regular season title, second consecutive, and third title overall. The Panthers lead the SSC in total goals (33), goals against (12), and scoring margin (1.31). Tech has spent nine weeks in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, reaching as high as No. 12. Freels becomes just the second coach in program history to earn Coach of the Year honors after Ryan Moon earned the award in 2023.

Graduate forward Ximena Jauregui and sophomore defender Sara Batchadji join Llopis and Sinkler on the All-SSC First Team.

Jauregui joined the Panthers this season and made an immediate impact on the offensive end of the field. The Cancun, Mexico finished second on the team in points (14) and goals (6), including two game winners, and chipped in two assists with over 1000 minutes on the field. She also earned SSC Player of the Week on Sept. 9.

Batchadji earned All-SSC First Team honors for the first time in her career after earning Third Team honors in 2023. The Lubeck, Germany native bolstered a backline that led the conference in shutouts and goals against. She also added in two goals and one assists offensively.

Junior forward Lauryn Wood and junior defender Rebecca Storr landed on the All-SSC Second Team with Tobon.

Wood earned All-SSC Second Team honors after earning Third Team honors in 2023. Wood totaled four goals and one assist in nearly 1000 minutes on the pitch.

Storr was named All-SSC Second Team after her first season with Tech. The Junior played a key role both defensively and offensively for the Panthers. She was also part of the backline that led the conference in goals against and shutouts. Offensively she totaled two goals and one assist. Storr also earned an SSC Player of the Week award on Nov. 11.

Junior defender Halla Helgadottir and freshman defender Alice Mottershead landed on the All-SSC Third Team.

Helgadottir earned All-SSC Third Team for the second consecutive year. The junior started in all 16 games on the backline for Tech, playing nearly 1400 minutes on the pitch. Helgadottir also chipped in two assists during the year.

As the top seed in the SSC Tournament, the Panthers will host fourth-seeded Saint Leo tonight, Nov. 14 in the semifinal round of the conference tournament. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Rick Stottler Field in Melbourne, Fla.
